It is in the small print on their site: "Existing customers - You will need to ask for the higher interest rate."

    http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/classic_and_classic_plus_accounts.asp

Doesn't seem right that you have to phone up and ask - surely existing "loyal" customers should get it automatically.

Anyway I shall make the phone call later ...

I'd rather that than it be "only available to new customers."

I just went into my local branch and asked for the extra 2% on my existing Classic Plus account. An advisor was called and got me into a room. He did not (amazingly!) try to sell me anything else and just got on with the task. He said that all he needed to do was to change the product code to 341, subtype 44 and tariff 1 via their PBS system and then the computer will automatically apply the new rate.

Can anyone who works for Lloyds TSB tell me what these things mean and what the advisor have been doing please?

i dont work for lloyds but as i mentioned in my post on monday i also went into the branch and they did exactly the same for me - i think it just updates their internal system so you get the new rate - dont think there is anything to worry about

I just phoned Lloyds TSB on the back of the 6% rate on Classic Plus and the person I spoke to didn't know what to do initially, then tried to make me upgrade to one of the 'extras' accounts.

Finally was put through to another guy who upgraded to the new rate but he did read out a statement about interest on overdrafts above £10 - not sure if this is a new overdraft rate though.

A bit of confusion going on at Lloyds.

I phoned after just reading Martin's e-mail. CS first of all didn't know anything about it. Then she investigated and said it only applied to upgrades from classic to classic plus - I have a classic plus so was ineligible for the 6% rate. I accepted this.

Then I came on here and read the thread. Have just phoned them again (calls 2 mins apart ). First CS rep knew immediately what I was on about and transferred me to second CS rep. I've been upgraded to the 6% classic plus, given info it's up to 2.5K thereafter pittance, and letter of confirmation to follow. Quick attempt to further up-grade me to a fee-paying account but accepted the 'no thanks' easily enough.

So all done - but some of the staff there are misinterpreting the offer.

Hi, im just in the process of getting this too, I have a classic plus already, but like the rest of you I want the 6% not the current 4%

Went into the bank today and asked, the adviser said that they had a memo about it this morning, and all existing 'classic plus' custormers would be automatically changed to the new rate.......mmmm?

I questioned this, knowing the variety of processes mentioned on this thread, (including the web site saying existing customers had to request it) and she agreed with me that it probably was not going to be done automatically, she is looking into it and going to call me.

I will post the outcome when it happens if I think it will help others (and probably tell her the codes in AP's post when she calls back!!)

Just a personal concern of mine is that if you have a classic and just upgrade online to a classic plus, how do you know you are getting the new classic plus interest rate (6%) and not the standard rate (4%) I think if you dont get it in writing you should check, like APs post, it looks like a different product code/tarrif has to be applied.

I think that even if you upgrade online you still need to phone/goto branch to ask for the extra 2%

  • Brand new customer here who just took out the new 6% deal! Had the A&L 8% until a few months ago and this seems a good substitute for some time at least (unless someone can answer my question in the thread I just posted and give me a clue about what I'm on about)

Just thought I'd pop in to say ta, havent read Martins new email yet, and found this out while scouring the current account section for an answer to my question. Good work, happy customer! :T
