E.ON v5 price increase.

Hi I'm in the same boat as I switched to V.5 only a couple of months ago however a word of warning for those who are looking to switch again....the V.5 discount is not payable on your 'final' bill from E.ON so whatever you do don't switch until you get your next bill from them, that way you'll only lose approx 21 days worth of discount.:beer:0
-
But when do they issue your first bill on this tariff? Was it after exactly 3 months?
I Switched at the end of March like it seems everyone else, I'm really anoyed as I was thinking of going to Scottish Power fixed until 2011 which has now been withdrawn.0 -
SWITCH
............ SWITCH
........................ AND SWITCH AGAIN!

If the offers are OUT THERE, then only a FOOL would NOT take them up!
And whilst CARDEW is 'Wise Beyond His Years' ........... It is the UTILITY companies that are really at fault with regard to the Switching Incentives?
Plus with all the ludicrous PROFITS these companies make (and boast about), is it any wonder that that the Switched-On members of the public take up several of these offers each year?
The last time I switched, my new supplier immediately increased their rates and on informing me of this increase where the ones to suggest that if I was NOT happy with these increases, then I should simply switch to another provider! .............. as was my right under the law!
And so I did switch, .................. BACK to my old provider, who whilst also increasing their prices at that time, where a little bit cheaper than my (then) new provider!!!
I did TRY to stay with this energy provider, prior to switching back ............. but they where simply NOT interested, in fact the operator that I spoke with no only bemoaned his own company for not offering him a STAFF discount on his own energy bill ......... he was the one who advised me to switch via one of the cash back sites, thus saving another lump sum off my energy bill to come!!!
In an ideal world ............ then YES there should be no need for switching incentives/cash backs, but we do not live in an ideal world ................. and with the ever increasing cost of living we all have to put up with, it is the BIG companies, such as the Utility Providers that are the true parasites ..................... whilst they can simply increase the Unit Price we pay, virtually AT WILL ............ would it not be nice if we could then increase the amount of energy we receive for the price we pay?;)
NOW the stick bit ............. my (latest) Energy Provider I discover has just increased their prices AGAIN ........... only this time without telling me! I only found out whilst checking my account online with a view to possibly changing to a FIXED RATE tariff ...............!
So WOULD I be wrong to yet once more look for a better price and switch (?) ................ and if possible with yet another Cash Back?:D
My provider has so far NOT had the decency or honesty to advise me of this latest Price Rise ............... which it bought in a full 9 days ago ................ OR is this OK in the eyes of some (?) ..................... ME, the answer I'm afraid is NO, so I'm off to yet again SWITCH suppliers and I can foresee this occurring many more time to come, given the way our Utility Providers operate and treat us, not as Customers, but just as another number within their system!
So .............
SWITCH,
................... SWITCH,
.................................. and SWITCH again!

I was wondering when you go to the comparison sites do they take into account the discounts and Tesco clubcard points (as this is worth over £100 for me)?

The only problem with this is that you have 14 days from receipt of the letter to say you're going to switch, in order to continue to pay the old rates up until you've moved. If you tell them after these 14 days, then you will pay the new rates from June 1st through to whenever you switch (potentially 2 months). If you start the switch a week from now, yes you'll lose the 18% discount on the past 3 months, but working out who is better off losing the 18% discount on 2 months of bills vs paying 15% more on 2 months of bills is a mental challenge I wish none of us would have...
I've worked out that British Gas are £10 more expensive than the new E-On rates, after the 18% discount but before the 500 Tesco points (£20). There's nothing to stop British Gas from hiking their prices in 2-3 months, is there, just after my switch completes - and then I'll have saved the £60 from Quidco but lost the 18% v5 discount and the Tesco points - and ended up paying loads more in the process.
Verdict: I'm going to sit tight, turn off the gas, use little electricity over the next 2 months, and hopefully switch in the autumn, if/when prices stabilise.
PS Did anyone notice that Quidco had £70 cashback for E-On back in Feb/March, then it went down to £55 in April/May?Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
I got the letter today, *sigh*. As I had a bill on 1st June, I think its time to switch again. I can go back to Scottish Power and get £62 from Quidco. So much hassle though. If only these companies put effort into keeping customers through low prices, rather than attracting new ones via cashback...
Do I have to ring Eon and tell them I'm leaving within 14 days? Does anyone know if I'll still get the Tesco points if I do (somehow I doubt this).
Also, I wonder how long you can string out a transfer for, in order to keep the old rates...0 -

Switch to a capped deal? Why is OFT or whatever it is not investigating the fuel companies, looks to me like a cartel is fixing prices.0

I was always under the assumption that the unit price, be it gas or electricity, was dependent upon the wholesale price and that the standing charge covered everything else (e.g. staff wages, accommodation etc.) This being the case how do E-ON defend a 46% increase in gas standing charge but only 8% in electricity standing charge? Maybe the people who deal with gas queries get paid more!!
I telephoned E-ON for an explanation. Guess what, they could not give one. All they said was that standing charge was dependent upon tariff you are on and thus on cost of wholesale supply. This is ridiculous and only confirms my thoughts that the whole industry is corrupt and that the regulator has no control over anything! Then again most companies are foreign owned! Wonder if same thing happens in their home countries and is it just the UK being ripped off yet again!!0 -

As the source for gas (and electricity to a lesser extent) is the same for all supppliers, there is little difference to the price they pay for it.
Therefore, they will need to sell it at a similar price to earn a profit.
As the price of gas is linked (explicitly on the Continent) to the price of oil, prices are going up.
Are you suggesting that BP, Shell, Esso, Jet, Texaco, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons etc are also in a cartel because petrol & diesel prices are similar and change at a similar rate?0
