You beat me to it mrcol - I too switched to eon end of March 2008 and not having heard a dicky bird from them since I decided to check my account online only to find my price plan has changed from v5 to v7 (which I'd never even heard of).

    v5 Prices
    electricity 10.37p day
electricity 4.45p night standing charge 21.64p per day
gas 2.574p standing charge 8.286p per day

    v7 Prices
    electricity 10.37p day
electricity 4.61p night standing charge 40p per day
gas 2.913p standing charge 12p per day

This is going to cost me at least £80 a year more than I was expecting.
How come this price increase has not been announced. I think this is sharp practice by eon - and I thought they could be trusted

Looks like I'll have to switch again when I've not even had a bill from eon yet. British Gas Click Energy 5 is coming out cheapest for me (+£60 quidco).

i havent even had my first bill from eon and the prices have gone up!

those of you talking of switching again - didnt you find it cost you a fair bit to change? i switched from SP to eon and they switched the leccy before the gas so i ended up on a rediculous tarriff for the gas with no duel fuel discounts etc for a month, i paid £63 for the gas for a month instead of the usual £52 for both, and only got a couple of quid rebate.

This gets stranger. Just spoke to e.on and the operator said they have had no tariff increase since Feb. on extra saver the only change has been the to the duration and rate of the extra saver discount. He was unable to tell me why the tariff quoted on my online account was higher than my initial contract because "their system was down today" and could I ring back tomorrow. But how does this tie in with people getting price rise letters?

They also switched my gas before the electric but they only took dd of £37 (electric) for April, then £60 (both) for May - so I don't think this delay cost me anything as such - apart from the fact that they seem to have put me on the wrong tariff.

I switched to E.On at the end of March and I have also received a price increase letter today. I have phoned them and ranted but they tell me there is nothing they can do and I am welcome to switch suppliers again if I wish. I think it's a disgrace that they have lured new customers in then hit them with these increases. The UK energy consumers are getting taken for a ride and Mr Brown and his useless colleagues are sitting back and doing nothing but taxing us to death.

Second that with Brown & Co. Nothing to do with green taxes, just taxes to waste on pet projects and the MP's expense allowances. Since when is your own life insurance and household decoration been an allowable expense in the real world. I shall watch the next election in the hope I see their self satisfied smiles wiped off like Portillo. Mind you the alternatives are just as bad.

Every Utilty company has employed exactly that strategy for years.

It has always been a case of tariffs leapfrogging.

If there was one company consistently cheaper, we would all use them!
  • I just worked out that since switching to this price plan back in March, over the course of the 3 months I've been with them, my effective electricity charge is under 5p/kWh, and gas is just over 1p/kWh... This is taking into account the Quidco cashback which I've already received...

My thoughts are now, if I move to another supplier, then I'll get more cashback - and another good rate for the next 3-6 months, once the cashback deal is taken into account. If people keep moving away from suppliers as soon as they increase rates (as E-On have just done), then maybe they'll keep prices a bit lower in future.

The irritating thing is that E-On are still cheapest for me, despite the increases, however BG's ClickEnergy5 is now very close... I think it'd be definitely worth me switching, getting the extra £60 from Quidco/BG, but what's to say that BG won't increase their prices in July/August...

My OH has moaned at me earlier today, she said it serves me right for having changed supplier a few months ago, she knew that E-On would raise prices like this... To which I say fine, I'll move again... and she says it's not worth all the hassle... If we have an effective bill of £45 over the past 3 months instead of £115 (we got £70 from Quidco for switching) then I don't think anyone will dispute that it's been worth switching...

I just hope Quidco etc don't reduce the cashback we'll get... :D

    Happy switching!
