Google checkout doesn't offer much protection either for a buyer, so that was hardly better than a bank transfer anyway.

Looks like the seller has advised me to transfer the money to his mates account so that he can clearly say that he didn't receive payment. The ebay registered name and the bank account holder name is different. There is a similarity in the names i.e. they belong to the same ethnic origin.

I have the ebay messages that the did advise me to send money to a certain bank account and confirmed later that he did receive the payment. Will he claim that someone has hacked his ebay account and sent these messages and he cannot be held responsible for this.

I'm afraid he might, that might be why he has gone to an NPB to lay a false trial so he can claim a hijacked account.

In the Unpaid dispute claim and Item not received dispute, I have mentioned that I will contact Police, Barclays, Lloyds TSB and file a court case if needed ;) Is that wrong:think:

By the way I think this scammer is really ruthless. You were naive because most experienced ebayers would not have bidded. So sorry about this. What goes around.....

    Don't worry

Yes it does - you can raise a chargeback on a card payment or raise a dispute directly to Google.

Except that you get a full 90 days unlike the 45 with Paypal.
