I know to you it might only be a tin pot job but to me it is my whole life and I won't have anything when it finishes. All my hopes and dreams of having a longer term career there are over.

    And therein lies your problem.

It's a library. It was a short term contract.

    Get over it.

should we keep an eye on the 6 o clock news for someone taking managers hostage and barricading themselves in with books any time soon?

Hey guys, go easy on Phil. He's upset, he can do without having it rubbed in. Sometimes you find a job you love a lot and you don't want to leave, and that can be hard, it's a real wrench when you're young having to up roots and completely move on to something new.

Phil, it gets better. In your next place you'll have a little more respect for the things you learned in your last job, and you'll go a little bit further. There's nothing stopping you keeping in touch with your old workmates, and even if you miss the atmosphere there what's to say the next one won't be better?

As for your boss, yes it sucks. But, some bosses get very attached to their staff and find it just as hard to lose them as you do to go. It could be they're having a hard time with this too - even though that makes the workplace an awkward place to be and creates a cloud over the office. Try sucking it all in, and having a quiet chat to your boss to say thanks for the opportunities you were given, and the great time you had. I once employed a young lady for just a few months, and to be honest she wasn't all that good but she tried hard and she was always civil and pleasant to work with; when she left (she was a temp) she gave me a little teddy bear from Clinton's with a tiny "thank you" card, and a note inside saying how much she had enjoyed her time with me - I still have it all these years later and it reminds me of the good times I had.

OK I accept that the last few posts were a tad childish.... but Phil also needs to face up to the fact that he should be seeking another job... which involves completing applications & personal statements. Some of his posts in the Arms and his being 9th highest overall poster in 18 months of membership imply that he is not really giving that task his best shot.

If he put as much effort into finding another job rather than philosophising about himself every day; he'd find something else in no time.

Phil can have a real wrench trying to decide what shirt to wear in the morning and start a 20 page self pitying thread about it. About time he stopped being such a milksop. Maybe that's why he gets it a bit rough, maybe he should grow a pair.

Simple fact is I hate writing and I hate writing job applications. I dislike the task and I find it hard.
