But a job application or even an interview means nothing until you have the job.
Yes, but it is always the first step isn't it?0 -
Well done Phil. Just stop thinking you have to absolutely meet every requirement of the job - if that person existed the job wouldn't be there. Think about what you could do as well as what you can.
A very good friend of mine started this working life on the enquiries desk of his local library - and now he's the events manager. He's gone from finding obscure books for nutters (joke!) to booking very well known celebrities and artists for library events. Don't forget that libraries are incredibly multi functional these days!0 -
Phil I talked myself into a job in communications because i was a signaller in the army, got a start and worked from there, I wasn't even a comms trade I was an administrative support bod. You need to sell yourself more than you need to have the perfect qualification. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I had nothing to sell until I have had this job.:beer:0 -

Not true, phil...an application means one step closer to an interview, an interview means a bit more experience and getting another step closer to finding a job, even if that one is not offered.
Being interviewed is a skill, and you can't develop it unless you are interviewed and then reflect later on how you could have done better.0 -
... as you relax and build up a rapport.
... accept it as a cue to use the same to a certain extent.
.... A bit of "common sense" on what's appropriate is required of course!
When I say pants it is totally inappropriate... and it's a good job I'd not realised at the time or I'd have gone into a half hour long non-stop apology/panic.
My interview tip for the nervous is to think: "Does this face look like it cares?" Really, if you muck up an interview, you've done it so just get some chocolate and go home.0 -
I bet you get a job sooner than me Phil.
You rock!0 -

Gah! Labels! Your mind simply works differently to the majority. I refuse to acknowledge labels that people slap on others because they're afraid of differences - especially when they're used as a "can't do" answer.
Funny how so many of the great geniuses in our past were so different that everyone nowadays says they were mentally "ill", and yet just look at what they achieved! Illness my !!!!.
Most mistakes can... well not necessarily be fixed, but made the best of, through the simple matter of laughing it off.0 -

I rock, I wish. I am the shyist underestimater of myself going.:beer:0 -
Hi there Phil, I know just how you feel. First of all welldone in getting a job in a library, it's something I've wanted to have done before.
Since you're in Leeds I recommend signing up with Headway Recruitment, a friend of mine recommended them to me when I was there. I had terrible experience of agencies and applying to jobs up to that point yet despite never having set foot in an office before they actually had 2 offers for me on the first day I spoke to them. I started work the next day.
Just don't be too fussy with this public sector preference, private companies are not all the evil soul-sucking corporation you might think. Where I worked was very laid back and the people were great. Without that experience I wouldn't have had the confidence to seek the job I'm starting soon.0
