O2 offered it when i bought the phone. I didnt get it but they said I can order it within 72 hours.
Do I need it? They said it covers against theft, breakage etc.
What is your advice?
Thanks0 -
Hi moneysavers.
I'm just about to get my son an iphone with a worry of when he's gonna break it, lose it or get it nicked!
I wondered if there are any good insurance deals or freebie deals via credit cards, bank acount etc...
I've found the MSE site thread but it's now a year out of date! thanks in advance!0 -

I have the Halifax Ultimate Reward bank account and they repaired my iphone 3gs and sent it back to me brand new! I am not actually sure whether its a new phone or a reconditioned phone, but for £30 I am most impressed and they sent it back to me within 4 working days!
I am going to check the IMEI number and give them a call back. The insurance is free with their Ultimate Reward account (you pay £12.50 a month for the account, but every month you deposit £1000 they give you £5 back)
Can't fault it whatsoever.:cool:0 -
Would like to know the same - gf just bought an iphone and now scared to death to take it out
Easy to leave somewhere
Does any insurance cover for loss?0 -

I am insured with Geek Squad who belong to Carphone Warehouse. I lost my phone whilst on holiday and they are refusing to honour my claim as I did not report within 48 hours. We were sailing around remote Greek Islands. If I had gone through Orange they allow you to report within 48 hours of your return. No one told me this when I got the phone at - yes - Carphone Warehouse.

Here's my usual response to this question:
GGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has been covered several times before. Phone insurance is a waste of money. Speak to your home insurers (contents) and check to see if you have "away from home" or "personal possessions" cover (same thing - different name). If you do, they are probably covering your phone anyway so just ask them to confirm this. If you don't have the cover, ask for 2 quotes:
1. To add the Personal Possessions cover with £3,000 limit & including the phone
2. To add the phone only
Both quotes will include an admin charge, so ask what this is - it's a fee you pay to cover the costs of providing the paperwork so is only a one-off. Sometimes, for your own peace of mind, it's worth having the phone specified anyway. This should cost you a couple of pounds only (after the admin charge).
The excess on PP cover is usually £50, so double that of the mobile phone insurance. The cost, however, is lower and the cover better. Mobile phone insurance does not cover theft whilst unattended (ie, you are in a cafe and leave your bag on the table whilst going to pay and come back to find it's been stolen). PP cover not only insures your phone, but your bag and its contents too!!
STOP WASTING MONEY!!!!!!!
I'm going to ring my insurance company and do what you've suggested. I took Orange cover for £12pm and have to keep it for 4 months as I didn't read this site first!
I was just wondering in your experience what cover household insurers are likely to provide for fraudulent use of the phone when stolen? (runnningup a phone bill).0 -
I read on the MSE Fact sheet that CUSC will only cover forcible theft of your Iphone so I e-mailed them to clarify and this is the reply which I think others will find useful.
'Thank you for your mobile phone insurance enquiry.
If your mobile is left unattended it must be made secure e.g.. if left at home ensure doors are locked this would then need a forceful entry to gain access to your mobile phone, the same applies in a car (locked boot or glovebox) or health club (place phone in locker) etc.
If the phone is forcibly pick-pocketed or snatched from you or verbally threatened then the claim is valid. If the phone just goes missing with no evidence as to the reason for its disappearance then your phone would not be covered.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if further information is required.
Kind regards
CUSC Ltd'
From reading this I undersatnd a bit more and I think that just losing your phone is classed as loss not theft and I'm not sure if they cover you just losing it. So after reading the fact sheet I think am looking for insurance cover for theft, accidental damage, loss, and fraudulent use of the handset. Hope this is of help to anyone as I have been grateful for others help on these boards.0 -
I rang my household insurer and I do have accidental damage, accidental loss and personal possessions aways from the home plus contents at home. So I am pretty much covered but my excess on the policy is £100. So I haven't really saved much as the Orange Care was £144 per year with a £15 admin fee. I must look around at renewal for a lower excess perhaps. So the policies with Talkcover and Bubble.com, and I phoneinsurancecover.com are all more expensive than my household policy. However compared to the Orange Care Cover there is one thing I can't get on the household insurance and that is the extended warranty. I also can't seem to find any standalone cover for fraudulent use of the handset (running up a high calls bill). The mobileinsurance direct.com and iphoneinsurance.com and bubble.com do have mechanical breakdown, out of warranty repairs, and airtime abuse with limits ranging from £100 to £250. I'd be interested in peoples knowledge about extended warranty etc0

Hi, I lost my iPhone 4 three weeks ago when I left it in a taxi whilst on my holidays (stupid, I know!) and tried claiming it on my insurance with Lloyds TSB, but apparently because it was my fault they won't cover it, although it states in their insurance policy that they do cover 'loss'. What shall i do? Obviously this is unfair!
