While we all wait with bated breath for the editable description fields, I thought others might find my workaround useful. If you are using the weekly or monthly field, you can type text into the yearly field. The formulas are pulling the number figures from the leftmost column, so as long as the text is in one of the fields to the right, it won't break the spreadsheet.
For example, I want to differentiate between my spending cash and my husband's. So I put my money in "pocket money" and his in "other family", then filled in his name in the yearly box. That one is probably obvious enough that I didn't need a note, but anything to keep me from getting confused with money is a good thing! Also, I want to keep his Open University expenses (which will be going on for several more years) separate from my driving lessons (which will hopefully be over soon!) so his expenses are in the Education section, while I'm using some of the unneeded kid expense rows for mine, with one labelled 'driving' for the cost of driving lessons and 'tests' for the cost of tests and fees. Because the yearly field can't be resized, it has to be a one word description, but I'm sure everyone here is creative enough to work within those constraints.
(And let me add my thanks to Martin and Tony H for such a great tool! :T :T :T )

Can someone help?
Even with a surplus of income over expense my result comes out as a red number. Is there a gremlin in the works or am i doing something wrong?0 -
Apologies if it's mentioned anywhere else (but with 10 pages in this section I did skim a bit), but are people aware of OpenOffice.org? A completely free open-source alternative to Microsoft Office, with a word processor, spreadsheet & equivalents to PowerPoint and the Access Database.
You can download it from https://www.openoffice.org & it will work with standard Excel and Word files. I've opened the budget spreadsheet in it successfully although I haven't tested it to make sure all the Macro's work.
For people on a budget or without Excel then it's extremely useful!

hi thanks for the budget planner very helpful!
However, when i try to re-budget and enter amounts in the 'Desired column' although the individual sections add up ok, they do not show on the 'Expenditure Totals'. Thereby making it impossible to compatre the total outgoings of now and desired.
Am i making sense? Does anyone know of a fix?!
Cheers!0 -

The answer from Tony H, the author of the spreadsheet, is that the yellow 'Desired' cells on the Expenditure OR Expenditure Totals sheets are meant to be filled in manually for either a detailed view of desired spending or an overall monthly view.0 -
An excellent aid but it is limited as it is not possible to amend it to suit ones own circumstances. It would be more useful also if one could print it out without all the colours - as it is, it is difficult (if not impossible) not to get blank pages of yellow paper that just drains ones ink cartridge. Would it be possible to have an unprotected copy or access (by purchase if necessary) to the password?0

Hi,
Being a money saver, I bought Excel for windows 95 last year for a few pence on ebay.
But obviously I can't open your budget planner spreadsheet as it's a later version. Any chance of posting an earlier version for us cheapskates?

Hi - I'm using star office 8, and I'm having problems using the budget planner which I've downloaded. The error message I'm gettings is:
A Scripting Framework error occured while running basic script vnd.sun.star.script:Standard.GOTO_Expenditure?language=Basic&location=document
Does anyone know why I'm experiencing this problem and/or how it can be fixed?
Thanks: confused:0
