Hi, can anyone help, I have windows XP and can not open the downloaded file because i cant find windows excel.
the message comes up to search the web, but when i try to download windows excel from microsoft i still can't open the file. please help!!
You'll have to buy Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Office on a CD. Probably the cheapest way of buying the latest version (Office 2003) is Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition - STUDENT or TEACHER, e.g. £84.54 from Dabs (it might be cheaper elsewhere). Standard Edition includes Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint.

Also see http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000BZ54S/026-8835011-2271634 for qualifying criteria for the Student and Teacher edition.

If you don't want the latest version, a cheaper alternative is to buy Office 97 off eBay for around £10-15. Read the auction carefully though and make sure the item is a genuine CD with a license key.
  • Thanks Chippy,

But i just think its a bit strange, ive just bought a new computer and i thought the microsoft works cd which was supplied, would actually have excel included. ive had much older packaged in the past which include excel and dont understand why i have to pay to upgrade. sorry for sounding a bit stupid, do you think it should be included in the package?

Microsoft Works doesn't include Excel, you'll need to either buy it separately or buy Microsoft Office. Personally I think Works is a con- loads of people get it with a PC assuming it has all the programs they need, then find they need to upgrade to Office (or stuff Microsoft and go for the free Open Office!).

    Hi,

I don't know if anyone can help me?

I downloaded the Budget Planner no problem.

When I ran it in Excel one of the macros changed the settings on my Taskbar.

So no matter how many spreadsheets I have open only one button is shown on the Taskbar.

I have tried changing it with the Taskbar properties checking and unchecking "group similar Taskbar buttons" but nothing seems to work.

How can I reverse the changes that the macro has made to my Taskbar?

    Many thanks,

    Paul

The file open, partially, most of the features won't work because of macros and problems with signatures etc.

    Bummer.

  • I downloaded and unzipped Budget Planner, but keep being told I cant open file as it is password protected. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re open the budget workbook and click on the "Save & Exit" button to restore your default excel settings. I believe this is mentioned within the spreadsheet.
  • Excellent 'budgeting' tool!! Many thanks.

I did see somewhere in the last 17 pages I have read through ( :wall: ) the reasons why the sheet is password-protected, which I can understand. However, I also saw a comment that said any suggestions for future versions would be considered.......

.....and so my suggestion (or question, I suppose) is......

    Would it possible to have a vesion of this sheet that has all cells except the description boxes protected? This would allow users to personalise the descriptions allocated to cells but still maintain the protection of the formulas etc. I'm no Excel expert but I know it's not too difficult to achieve;

The above was taken from here .

Waiting in anticipation with fingers crossed...............

    Blatant 'bump'

    What do you think, Tony??
  • PJMUK, in Excel, check Tools - Options - View tab - Windows in Taskbar is ticked.

If there's only Excel button on the taskbar and you have multiple workbooks open you can access each one via the Window menu in Excel.

This is probably the simpliest solution provided so far, I will bring it up with Martin. icon14.gif
