Thanks again for all your help, I just again. re downloaded the file and followed your instructions to the letter, it then gave a message- "works was unable to open the file you selected. The file may be corrupted" So on that note, I am off to my bed, Thanks again for your patience and assistance, very much appreicated
  • Which version of Works are you using?

The budget spreadsheet is for Excel and although some versions of Works can open Excel's .xls files, I think this particular spreadsheet contains linked sheets which aren't supported in Works, and also Works doesn't support all Excel functions. Therefore you really need Excel.

It's possible that budget.zip was corrupted during the download. To check this (and get really techie) you could use FastSum to compute the file's MD5 checksum. Mine is B123A78BDFCDEC4A9ED747F6BF2800B9.

Well !!.... you have really lost me know, anyway, I tried to understand and downloaded Checksum, although I could not follow what I was to do with it then, but I had a fiddle about with checksum and the file... but still no luck.. also... what was that large number you put there in your comments... by the way.. perhaps the problem could be that I am using Microsoft Works.. is that EXCEL ?

Well.... you just aint gonna believe this... somehow I have it, somehow it just arrived on my screen...... but it does say that I cannot save it, have I got the right version? it came up as:C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Desktop\budget\budgetcalc.htm - is that correct? I thought I would have been able to save it and refer back, but I can only print it out... I am not being ungrateful. VCheers... Kate

Hey chippy, I think I can answer the last quote to you myself, I have not worked it out, I somehow have the other version, the one you cannot save.. oh well.. back to work I guess..dont look like this is gonna happen for me at all.
  • No, Microsoft Works isn't the same as Excel. As I said, you probably need Excel to use the budget spreadsheet.

    budgetcalc.htm isn't right - that's a web page.

To use the FastSum trial edition, click Files and select budget.zip. Then click the Green arrow button to calculate the checksum. It should be the same as the long number in my previous post.
  • Any chance of the Open Office version being made available for downloading? Just decided to actually work out my budget for the new year and didn't get very far! ):
