Anyone know about Drinking Chocolate? I have a mug each night before bed and have often wondered if it does any good cals wise, despite what's said about it aiding sleep (I don't need anything like that), I looked at the cals yesterday and it said 135 per cup, isn't that a few too many to be going to bed on? I also have an under active thyroid and need to take 100 mgs of thyroxine daily, but still feel I'm sluggish.
Maybe try hot milk? I think I need a few cups tonight, I've been sleeping really badly while on holiday. I suppose it's cos I know I don't have to get up a certain time for work.Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!

Bb that's a quite fascinating article on the history of cereal, and had I seen it yesterday, I may have had toast this morning instead of Weetabix. It was disappointing to read this though......
"Kellogg turned it into the famous Battle Creek Sanitarium, where he set about devising cures for what he believed were the common ills of the day, in particular constipation and masturbation."
.....I can only be grateful that Kellogg failed, for my day would be pointless without my two favourite pastimes!!
A very interesting article. I have long been amazed at the idea of any one feeding themselves cocopops as a 'meal' and haven't eaten cereals for breakfast fo a long time as they just don't last for me - after 1/2/ an hr I am hungry. I do have wheetabix in the evening as a prebed snack sometimes, and we make our own museli now which I'll occasionally have for speed in the mornings. Even porridge just doesn't last for me, dispite everything we are told to the contrary. A protein breakfast is the only one that works for me and keeps me full.
SueU -it doesn't matter what you eat before you go to bed, it's the days total of cals that matter (if you are cal counting). As long as you are eating less than you are putting in you lose weight. (Yes, delly - goodnes knows how sw works then, but for me it certainly does thank goodness). My friends live a very mediteranean life style and have their large evening meal at 9.30 and are slim and healthy.
Chosen new glasses this afternoon - what a torture that was trying to choose. Couldn't have done it without a friends help. Still, got free prescription sunglasses in a 2 for 1 offer so happy in the end.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Not up to very much missyg, trying to start getting ready for our hols(only 5 more sleeps).

I love my Special K and Bran Flakes
Going to have to try again with the porridge methinks. It seems like such a good food, if only I could acquire the taste for it. I hate it when there are food scares (or similar) about the things I like
Well done on the 1lb loss SueWhat rate are you losing at, and what rate would you like to be losing at? BMI and BMR are two separate things, if it's your daily calorie needs you're after, forget about BMI and start with your BMR...

FFM I guess the shock at the farmers market prices is possibly a reflection of the true cost of growing & making a living wage profit on top.- whereas supermarkets are crippling farmers by paying barely above cost to produce. The price we pay for milk in supermarkets is why many dairy farmers are going bankcrupt, making us more and more reliant on foreign imports.
It's like the cost of meat production where the animals are free range rather than locked in pens /barns and no room to live/breathe means meat is pricier the better the animals are looked after.
Sorry if I have spread alarm and dispondancy missgy re breakfast cereals - was a bit of a shocker re nutricianal value wasn't it. I think if I really liked a cereal I would find it hard to stop too (and probably wouldn't). I can't believe that when I was growing up it was quite normal to spread sugar on my cornflakes:eek: .
Cloudy & muggy at the bottom of the country beanie. Only 5 sleeps til you go away - how exciting. When are you off missyg?
Had a very large hot chocolate today at 'chockywockydoodahs' in town. A place generally to be avoided if poss (the clue's in the name) and sat next to the actress who play bianca in eastenders - ooh I hobnob with the stars me:DI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
missyg, you get the mAOD from the maps with the contours, usually produced by Ordnance Survey. 1:50,000 (landranger series pink covers) and 1:25,000 (pathfinder series green covers). They are also great for finding footpaths, bridleways etc.
beanielou, we used to count down to holidays in 'nos of sleeps' when our little monkeys were younger - you saying that brought back memories
bb, it only took me about 5 mins to choose my new glasses - I thought they all looked the same - so I went cheap - very MSE - someone at work asked if they were about £200 and when I said £56 they nearly collapsed - goodness knows how much they usually spend.
sue-uu, how about camomile tea before bed - it is an acquired taste so will probably take about 20 before you 'like' it.
I had a hm beef and mushroom pie for tea, followed by the fudge cake - haven't yet totalled by calories yet for the day, will no doubt have some porridge before bed anyway.

Thanks Molly. That's a real shame about your friend, but don't let it stop you as you want to show her, and everyone else, the new you asap! It will happen! Good luck!
Thanks raph, I suppose it'd be better than tea with 1 sugar.

Thanks a lot for that reassurance BB, though from reading through here each day I'm so worried about not having enough cals pd, but worried sick about having too many!missyg wrote:Well done on the 1lb loss SueWhat rate are you losing at, and what rate would you like to be losing at? Thanks missyg and thanks for the link again I think I've got it a bit better now. I've barely been losing at all, slowly putting on instead, though early mpause and giving up cigs have both taken their toll, the thyroid problem too. IF I could lose between 1 & 1/2 - 2 stone I'd be thrilled to bits, but I don't see it happening until I've got the cals in hand. Last week when I'd put on a pound (from all Ajax had said to Mick when he first came) I'm sure that may have been from having too few cals pd as I really went OTT with just soup and sandwiches (4 slices of bread with lettuce & toms) per day. I didn't realise you could take too few until then.
What rate would I like to lose at? ASAP & AQAP, but I know that's not practical at all and would only see me go back up sooner rather than later no doubt. Aside from watching some TV in the evening I'm on the go most of the time, even walking diagonally across the kitchen with each plate, cup etc when drying up!!! I'm sure the thyroid isn't helping as Doc increased them from 25 mgs a day to 100 mgs but I'm sure it's still not enough. I'll have a chat with him this week as I have to go anyway and maybe he'll test it. See why I can't wait for the wii fit!!
Thanks missy. Glad I'm not the only one that starves after a cooked breakfast beanielou

wow, 5mins. impressive. I must have tried on 30 pairs at specsavers and they were all diff - some suited the shape of my eyes face better and others look harsh depending on shape or shade of frame, or made me look 'all glasses'. Perhaps it helps if you're already a bit of a looker - you need less help in the face department:rotfl: Mine were £85 for two pairs as I very much need prescription sunglasses, as my immune supressant drugs make me sensitive to light and driving on a bright day with out them I can hardly see sometimes. However this was considerably more mse than my last pair which wer twice that for one pair (my feeble excuses was they were the first time I had ever worn glasses and I disn't know what I was doing:o )I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Thanks for that fab list missyg~very much appreciated.
