  • Missyg, 22% in the morning seemed rather high, so I started a long post in reply as to how my calories are spread out through the day. I ended up concluding that this is very do-able.

I'm happy to try it with you, I would have to double my porridge portion in the morning and add a banana - OH would wonder what on earth I was doing as I'm very much a creature of habit.

    I'll start tomorrow.

Me too vix, as I burst out laughing. OH is looking at me with a quizical expression, but repeating it doesn't do your post justice:rotfl: .
Missy - whenever you & you other stats lovers talk numbers, I only ever see blah blah swahilhi blah blah blah on the page:rotfl: . But always love the rest of it (and what do you mean 'not a warm and fluffy type'? You are a very warm and supportive peep (and so are you pet o self flagulating one:D ) ).
Beanie - saw some oreo's for the first time today and thought of you. (Didn't try one as I sensed that might be dangerous...)
Kpc, I think you've been really sensible in judging the weakness for you in doing cal counting. Well :T done.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Even the full size curly wurly is only 115 cals Beanie! :) I'm on a strict 1200 cal day today and I only had to have a slightly lighter lunch to be able to give myself that lovely treat :D

They must have shrunk since I had them as a kid - they used to be huge

I think all chocolate bars shrink over time and then get advertised as 'biggest ever', 50% extra etc

  • :naughty: Tut tut tut Lemon, you shouldn't be skimping on the meds if you're sick. Have a big bowl of porridge if it will make you feel better (and you'll certainly feel stronger for it) having a couple of days treating yourself when you're feeling ickky won't hurt.

I know, I know, but I've just got myself back on track after a two week break (and an 8lb gain) and really don't want to mess things up again! Just getting a little frustrated, seems to be one thing after another at the moment. Might make porridge tonight to eat with Frost though!

Thanks so much for all the info missyg. Just calculated BMR as 1942, so does 1400 cals/day seem reasonable? (Used sedentry levels as not doing much whilst ill, more frustration grrrrrrr). How many calories are there in the milk (full fat) put in tea and coffee say per drink? I think these little bits will be the trickiest!

Might try the breakfast thing whilst doing this, tankyou plg. It did seem a little harsh on low carb though.

Others may remember that whilst I was losing weight I didn't 'do exercise' it's only now that I have just started cycling. The most I used to do was a 20min stroll around the park lunchtime with a pal (having a good old chat) and a 2 minute walk from the furthest end of the car park to the office. 1400 cals worked for me.

You could always use half milk and half water in your porridge - that way I think about 200ml of milk would be about 100 cals.

FFM, ooh you're up for the breakfast challenge too! I'll start tomorrow as well seeing as I had already planned to have the thick sliced bread for my toast ;) I will be interested to see whether I feel less hungry as the article says.

BB thank you, I don't see myself as one of life's huggy types, more a practical, straight to the point type :) Perhaps we all have different ideas of how we come across on a forum like this, compared to how others see us? Interesting!

Lemon Drop, I don't drink tea or coffee so perhaps someone else will chime in, but the book says 10 for skimmed, 14 for semi-skimmed and 21 for whole milk. 1400/day sounds like a very good starting point to me, as you've probably worked out, you could expect to lose 1.5-2.0lb per week at that level if sedentary.

After reading about it from you lot for so long, I decided I'd do the BMR calculator thingy, and mine is 2073. Multiply that by the lightly active coefficient of 1.375 and I get a whacking 2850 cals a day to play with. Rock on Tommy!!!! Laters folks, I'm going out for a Chinese :D

    Nite all!

  • Vix - regarding the hoc addiction...I have the same problem but I find once I've gone a whole day wihtout it the second day is easier and then i snowballs so it becomes a habit (a constantly re-starting habit I'll admit but it has resulted in me being unable to eat yorkie bars now they just sugar me out). You could try what I've been doing all week....you will need.....3 largish tubs and a small tub, chop up a pineapple, melon and a mango and store each fruit in a different tub....oo...buy a bunch of grapes....stash the lot in the fridge...when you're dashing round in the morning take too sec while the kettle is boiling and dollop a bit of each fruit into the smaller tub...(I like keeping it separate coz sometimes you feel like your fave fruit more than the others)....put the lid on the smaller tub shove it in your bag and eat it when you're hungry...coz its come from the fridge it keeps relatively well over the day....

Lemon-drop - Don't worry about calcounting or whatever it is you do when you're ill...take you're meds have lots of chicken soup. To try and keep me a bit more motivated I've got a graph on the go...I've made it so it has three lines that are plotted out for the next 100 days....the first is the weight I would be if I lost a pound a week, the second if I lost two a week and the third is my actual weight...I find watching the line fall in between or line up with the target lines help me focus a little more each day....the proper graph is a weekly one but I'm impatient and like to see soemthing move....I also did it all in lbs so it seems more lik a number than an obstacle as I ahve to work hard to convert it into stones in my head :p)
