Hi - not too sure if this should be in this forum but my 16 year old DS has just had £29.99 taken out of his account by NatWest as he was £1 short for a payment which he thought had gone through the week before. I know before he was 16 he culd not be overdrawn in the bank, but he has had no letter from NatWest to say he would be liable for overdraft charges. Would I be within my rights to go to the bank with him and try and get the money back for him. Furthermore, will he be charged overdraft interest ?
Thanks for any advice anybody can give.0 -
If you have no money in your account when a direct debit is due to come out, this is when your bank charges you, so if I have no money the bank cannot take the money they charge for it not being in there, do I still have to pay this? What can they do if I don't pay it, I simply won't put money in that account again. I have paid the direct debit now, so its just the bank trying to charge me. I didnt know I had an overdraft but they have automatically given me one by paying my direct debit for me but also trying to charge me for it! My account is Natwest also!
Someone help Please!
Thank you :j0 -

If you don't pay your charge, I imagine they will charge you for not paying the charge. I am guessing it would be easier to bite the bullet and pay that charge off before it escalates, then set about reclaiming the charge back.

If you post a letter to the head office of the bank, they should still have it on file.
If not, maybe gather a rough figure and throw it at them. Scare them a little into finding it.
There's not really a lot you can do without the actual charges, though. I think you could add gross misconduct, for not having your files, but not sure how you'd go about that.
I'd try sending a letter requesting first, and then posting yours / their response on here.
Good luck!

Hi there
I seriously need some help I'm on the verge of going bankrupt as Natwest have totally mucked me over the last 6 years.
So now I have got my statements online I have calculated charges for :
UNPAID D/D fees
Referral charges
which were extortionate ate £38 each charge.
What I need to know is every month for the last couple of years Natwest has charged me £28 and shows up as this- (30Jan A/C 1234567(my account number) this is because I have no overdraft and instead of natwest stopping anything it just adds on £28 each month because I go over.
Can this be included in my final bill or do I not count these £28 pound charges because they are 'account charges' I'm not sure if they come under 'unauthorized overdraft fee' which Martin states I can claim for.
Has anyone else had this problem with Natwest? If I add up all the £28s I will be able to buy a new car so I really desperately need to know before I send my letter off.
Also do I send it to my local branch or to the other Natwest address I keep seeing in Scotland- this is now to send off my bill request (2nd part)
I would be so grateful if someone could get back to me asap so I can start reclaiming- I promise I will update everything that happens

Hi ! and Happy New Year to all That read!
Caould anyone assist me please? I have in excess of £4000 dept with NBNA of which a very large sum consists of over limit/ late fees over the last few years, Is it still possible to reclaim these as they have just sold the dept to a third party?0 -
I am a new comer to the forum, but i have read the questions asked by the other members,bt i am still finding things confusing, although there has been some good advice given. I am at present with Baines and Ernst which i started in June 2008, i pay them £150 mthly, of which £35 is a management fee, i have read on the forum people are with Payplan, am i right in saying this is free, and if i move over to Payplan from Baines & Ernst, should i try and reclaim any credit card charges/bank charges before i move or after. Please help as i want to do things the correct way and as hassle free as possible, or do you think it would be better to get a company to reclaim all my charges back for me. A company was trying to get my bank charges back for me in early 2008 but then it was put on hold and i haven't heard anything since , i did get a letter stating how much the bank should owe me, can i use this information and continue with it myself ?:eek:0

I've just opened a savings account with another bank and I find that my regular bank - the First Trust Bank, in Northern Ireland - has charged £25 for the transfer, entitled 'Interbank Fee'. I've noticed several times that they also made similar charges previously whenever I've had money transferred into my account from another bank.
Does anyone know if it's likely that these charges are suitable for challenging?0
