As someone venturing out to a playcentre today with DD and no nappy for the first time, with my boys I remember the night dryness came a little while after daytime. Reckon once daytime is sussed, nighttime follows on when its ready. I never took the potty when I went out with the boys but today I will be well armed with potty, wipes and change of clothes! Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Hi,
Was just wondering how it went last night?
Was it a success?
My DD has just turned 2 and i'm going to be starting the process soon!!0 -
DRYNESS!!!!!!!! She woke herself up when she needed the toilet and got on her "special toilet" and shouted me to let me know she'd done and got back in bed :-D She has a drink of water just before bed and i thought this might make her have an accident but she was fine :-D my DD wasnt dry when i used to get her changed in the morning but ive figured out that she wee's just as she wakes up and before she comes into my room so with the toilet there she just jumps on it0

My dd will be 3 in January so Started potty training in a full on way 5 days ago. In pants all day nappy at night, potty upstairs and downstairs. However its all gone pear shaped. At first she was doing really well, using the potty when she needed to for wees and poos and looking really proud of herself, she got heaps of praise from me (maybe too much?...."WOW that's fantastic what a clever girl, daddy will be so happy when he gets home from work to hear how well you've been doing") She even said to me on day 2 "I think I'll try the toilet mummy". Then she started to not want to use the potty but to just wee wherever she was standing, then she started to choose a really inappropriate places to wee...on toys, on the toy box and even an attempt to wee on her little sister:eek: so I started to offer a sweetie ( a marshmallow) as encouragement if she didn't want to use the potty because she never ever gets sweeties I thought this would be a huge incentive. It was at first but she's not that bothered about sweeties it turns out she can take or leave them. Today she has only done one wee in the potty voluntarily and when she did a poo she smeared it all over her legs before I found her  Normally when I give her a row about something she gets really upset and needs comforting almost straight away but this time she just stared at me and kept saying "DAADAADAADAADAADAADAADAA" (she can speak perfectly well).
I'm worried that this is stress behaviour and that we have all (me, her dad and grandma) made it too intense. I gave her a bath and put a nappy on her again and popped her favorite cartoon on and we had a cuddle and I told her I love her because I don't want her thinking my love is dependant on her using the potty.
I don't know what to do next? Any thoughts?0 -
I would just leave it for a bit and try not to stress too much - I don't think your DD's behaviour is particularly unusual - she is still quite young and perhaps she's not quite ready0
-
Yep, agree with the above. It sounds like she's not quite ready yet (although clearly almost there!). I'd leave it a month or two, and then try again. I have 2 children, and whilst DD managed to train fine at 2, DS wasn't ready until nearly 3, and even then it took much longer and more effort to train him. Your DD is still fairly young, so don't stress about it!0

Great advice already given, but don't forget that if you do have an awful day, the next day can only be better!
I've just (in the last month) trained DS, and I found that after 5 days of OK potty use he regressed SO badly that I considered putting him back in nappies. We stuck it out though and since the next day he's done really well. We seemed to need that dreadful day, with urine splashed all over the living room (:eek: DON'T ASK!) to get back on track.
Good luck- she'll get there. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Again good advice already given..
Have you considered using reward charts? say if she gets say 5 stars she gets a reward and if she keeps it up for a week she can choose a big treat (ie magazine etc)It is better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.
Of all things we give a child, our words must be carefully wrapped.0
