Advice on Potty training

Hi Id take advantage of the good weather and leave her without pants when playing in the garden. Keep the potty outside whilst she is out there. I found this was helpful when my son was potty training as he did not have to fiddle with clothing when needing a wee. You could do this in the house too if your brave lol. Another way would be to take your little one to the toilet say every half hour and have a star chart when she manages to use the pot.
At night ensure she has gone just before bed and first thing in the morning.
One thing to remember is that some children may not be ready physically ie, bowel and bladder control are still immature.Every child learns and is ready at different ages.0 -
Not for me..
My son has reached an age where he's just started to show an interest in the potty.
Anyone got any tips on how to train him, and keep him interested in it?
TIA

i just left it around and , i know it sounds a bit yuk, but let him see others using the loo. i struggled to potty train my first was a bit laid back with my second. with the third i didn't bother trying cause i wasn't going to push her and stress myself out so she trained herself, i just left the potty around and put a seat thingy on the loo and she started taking the nappy off and going herself:rotfl:"that grady! won't sit next to a black child in church! but eats eggs, shoot right out a chickens !!!!!!" from fried green tomatoes:rotfl::smileyheaMSE is where my friends live :smileyhea0

First one just did it all by herself..

But they get a big clap and a cuddle... which usually makes them grin and dance...
I got one half trained.. the other is gonna be 5hitting in nappies until he's 50 I think :cool:0 -

Through the day I'd put my sons in regular cotton pants, so if they did wet themselves they knew about it as trainer pants don't allow that and they don't feel uncomfortable. After a while they knew when they needed to go and would use the potty of their own accord, rather than me having to ask them if they needed to go. Let your little one feel the difference between wet and dry on their skin. I got a 3 part potty which had an insert in it, Safety 1st I think. It had a step stool base, and then the seat part which sat on top of the toilet and then the insert which you could remove. A sticker chart may be an incentive too, mine weren't too bothered but may help. Let him/her pick their own underwear with fave characters etc when you go to buy them. If they have say in the choice then they may be more keen to keep them clean and dry than if you had just picked them and they had no say. Get a lot of elastic waisted bottoms, joggers etc so they can be quickly pulled down rather than buttons, zips etc. Once I started potty training them I used cotton pants during the day and trainer pants at night until they were dry for several nights in a row and then did away with the trainer pants. Have a potty upstairs, downstairs etc. Try to keep calm if they have an accident. I bought a messy mat which I put under the potty so if they didn't get in time it wasn't too bad. Good Luck.
Someone mentioned earlier, let them see your bathroom habits when you use the loo, and also hand washing etc, and they will follow your example, hopefully. Re the part of the potty that sits on top of the toilet. I didn't use that for a while as both my sons were a bit afraid of falling down the loo so left it until they wanted to use it. They just used the potty all the time until they felt comfortable to sit on top of the loo.
The potty I used for my boys was of a similar style to the one in this link.
