Advice on Potty training

ive only just started toilet training my son too and was 4 2 weeks ago, there is nothing wrong with that at all so dont feel guilty, my other 2 were the same, they were the same age as they refused all my earlier attempts to do it, had pressure from nursery staff etc but i believe if the child isnt ready then you are putting yourself through aggro for nothing
yes my son is too big for the potty, he now goes to the big toilet upstairs and is the right height for it, doesnt want to sit on toilet:rolleyes: he is doing great and have had no probs with him at all
know what it is like to have pnd, as i had that with other 2 boys, hope you are now doing ok0 -
I started my son about a month after he turned 3. He just wasn't ready before that.
If it's any consolation, he had one accident.......and that was it! and he was dry at night in three months.
I'm a big believer in leaving it as long as it takes. I've seen other mums who have rushed it, and they just end up clean up wee off everything for weeks on end."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

My neice turned 4 in Jan...she still refuses point blank to use the toilet and she's due to be going to school in August!
I bought her some of the wee balls that go down the toilet that boys are meant to aim for when they are training but she thought they were great!!
Pity she had enough of them after a week and went back to nappies! Sister keeps taking nappies away but she just wets herself or holds other things in until she is so sore my sister gives her a nappy!
...by the end of today though when I asked him to sit on his potty he said "Oh Mummy not again!!!" LOL
PS I think your sister really needs to talk to her health visitor/doctor about the best way to handle this problem with her dd though coz it sounds like she needs some helpful advice0 -
Thanks again for all your invaluable support and advice0

My son is 5 on the 3rd September and can be dry in the daytime but most days he has at least one accident, its a slow long battle and at nightimes he is always wet but as that ran in the family i may have that to deal with till he is a teenager hope not but not the end of the world.i suffered a lot of emotional abuse while this happened to me so i know how it feels when you do your best but have no control.
Anyway i was worrying myself about him being dry in the daytime as all his friends are dry in his age group and he is the oldest as he starts school on his 5th birthday.
good luck !0 -
Just wanted to wish you luck, its not easy and there's bound to be accidents, try to remain calm and relaxed about it and your son will get there in no time0

I didn't start training my daughter until just after her 3rd birthday in March, ready to start school in September (they only take them clean and dry)
I used a potty for a couple of days and then she wanted to use the toilet.
After about 5-7 days she was dry in the day. Bowel training took longer.... maybe a month or so so have no accidents.
I still put her in a nappy at night and will do until I'm feeling confident she's ready to go all night.
Each child is different and will do it when they are ready.
Ignore any pressure if you are getting any and do it when the time is right for both of you.0 -
This is quite common.
Mine was the same and I wouldn't be worried. Just be patient and persistant and results will follow0 -
hey
