Advice on Potty training

Hi all
I am potty training my Daughter. She was two in Dec. We are only a few days into it but I am concerned about her holding on. 9+ hours at the moment. The nappy came off today at 0830 and apart from a little dribble earlier there has been no movement. I think that she in uncomfortable as she keeps crying. I also expected her nappy from last night to be full to bursting but there was hardly anything there. She even stayed dry during her nap. She is walking round naked from the waist down (wearing little dresses). I have tried to increase her fluid intake via filling up an old fruit shoot bottle (her fav drink and usually reserved for special treats outside). She is now so fed up with me asking her if she wants to sit on the potty that she is screaming at me. However, I think that she is in pain too as she keeps crying.
I didn't have any of these issues with my son when he was potty trained at a similar age. Three days and we were sorted. I bribed him with Lightning Mcqueen toys but my daughter just isn't interested in bribery of any kind! Gutted as that was my strategy.
As luck would have it she has just had a wee all over the floor whilst I was writing this post:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Oh well 10 mins of clearing up and back to tomorrow for another 9 hours of holding on!
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks

Maybe she's just not ready.
I'm also not sure it's possible for a 2 year old to hold on for that length of time and I'm wondering if she has an infection that is causing her to be uncomfortable. Tbh, I would be looking to query this with my Doc if it was me.Herman - MP for all!0 -
My dd1 used to hold her wee in when she went to nursery at the same age. I would second what Alisasojo says and maybe put her back in to nappies until she is ready.0

I've just been looking around the net and came across this ( to do with Urinary Tract Infections).
Contact the Outreach Nurse if any of these symptoms occur:- your child refuses to drink or refuses their feeds
- your child does not pass urine or their nappy is still dry for more than 6 hours during the day
- your child has not passed urine 2 hours after waking up in the morning or wakes with a dry overnight nappy
- your child passes blood in their urine
- your child has a high temperature that has not started to settle 45 minutes after giving a dose of paracetamol or ibuprofen
- your child has tummy pains that are becoming worse
- your child starts to vomit, even clear fluids

Maybe its a little soon for her?
What the others said!

I am not sure what to do. I did feel that she was ready as she has been able to tell me since last summer when she was doing things in her nappy - and getting it right. My little boy used to go up to four hours between wees when he started.
My husband has just come home from work and she has been all sweetness and light laughing and joking with him telling him her wee was coming out - and hey presto it did. She did it no problem. Now I just need to work out how I can go to work for him and he can stay at home and do potty training!:rotfl:0 -
My best friend is a GP. I will give her a call later and she what she says. I would have expected a temperature with it but I think I will drop off a sample at the surgery to see what they do.
Thanks for all your replies. She does seem fine in herself though otherwise.0 -
Hello OP,
It sounds to me as if your daughter is holding on too long. Obviously this carries the risk of causing water infections - if I were you, I'd forget the training for now. She is still quite young for being totally dry all day. She is physically capable of holding on but isn't yet really clear about why or what's happening with the potty etc. In your position, I'd keep her in nappies for now, perhaps leaving the potty accessible near the loo and let her choose when it's time to take her nappy off. In a few weeks' time, she'll probably be playing outside a lot of the time and any weeing on the floor will be less of a worry. I must admit that my three children all preferred the loo to the potty so a step and a mini-loo seat made the transition pretty easy for them...the main thing is not to worry about it; when my (then) mother-in-law made a big deal of the potty training was the only time when it all got too much for my daughter! Your DD will be dry in a flash when she's ready.
Hope that helps.0 -
I agree with the poster above, if she's getting upset it sounds like she's not quite ready. She's still very young so no need to worry too much just yet. Leave it a couple of weeks then try again. Keep the potty around though, you never know she might go to it of her own accord.0
