WHilst I don't agree with the number of people these days who abuse free trials with absolutely no intention of ever taking up the full service (everyone denies it when there's an issue but so many of you do it, in fact people post on one of the boards of this forum telling people to do it) and find it immoral, there certainly seems to be something awry that almost everyone has a problem with returning the last DVD after they attempt to cancel the service. Perhaps everyone should get together and contact Watchdog.

Hi all - Bamber just to clarify, I had every intention of staying with them, as Egg recommended them. However, the service has been awful.

SFG - have not sent the letter as waiting for the form to arrive... maybe I will send it tomorrow to speed up their post!

PS: Anyone voting in the poll please add comments to the thread, to keep bumping it up the board for others to see...

People are only following Martin's advice...

Personally, I've not used any of the services (yet) because I'm just not organised enough at the moment and don't find I'm watching many Films (so would be renting films for the sake of renting not bacause I actually want to watch something)

However - it says it in bold capitals at the top of every page on this site
Martin Lewis' Moneysavingexpert.com FREE TO USE FREE OF ADS UK CONSUMER REVENGE
 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Just goes to show then. In the end revenge never really works!

    Hey Eager Learner,

I got a reply from my final 7 day letter today. It confirmed that my account was closed. I have kept this as I do not trust these people! I fully expect comebacks!

An extremely valid point mute_posting. After all, Martin's ethos is all about saving money and consumer revenge. That's why we are all here after all. (If we aren't here for that reason, why are we here??)

mute_posting - Martin is now aware of MMS and is not linking directly to them.

UKtim29 - of course it works, otherwise this site wouldn't be so popular... all our power together is a great tool x

I wasn't commenting specifically on MMS - just "free trials" in general.

Bamber19 was implying people abused them because they had no intention of signing up at the end. And?

I might send away for one of the many freebies advertised on the weekly email - it doesn't mean I should feel obligated to purchase the product once I've used it up.

As a consumer, how I see it, all these companied have jumped on the free trial bandwagon, nobody should feel guilty for taking up a free trial (of anything, dvd, magazine etc etc.)

If any of these companies didn't want to feel "abused" they should come up with something a little more original - perhaps a rate so low that it is attractive even without any "freebies"

    It was specifically
fact people post on one of the boards of this forum telling people to do it
that made me post - people only tell others about it because Martin has shown people how to benefit from such systems.

Hmmm - 'all of you' - the sounds of a sweeping generalisation there! :rotfl:

*Some* people just want the free trial, that's their decision and fair play to anyone who wants to do that.

As I have mentioned, I signed up because I wanted to rent movies and Egg recommended MMS. I paid 3 months, and was forced to cancel because of the poor selection of movies, slow dispatch, and, false promises re a promised free dvd. All of these combined. I gave them 3 months, which is more than enough time for them to sort themselves out. Only to find that they scam you when you try to leave, whether you were on a free trial, or previously a happy paying member, like me.
