  • Wow!! Just had a pair of glasses Reglazed at cilary blue and I really cant rate them high enough. I sent my glasses via parcel force on Wednesday and I recieved them back on friday and that was during christmas week. Excellent turn around and good communication.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 1.67 Super Thin Plastic MAR/HC and the 1.60 Thin Plastic UC/MAR at Ciliary blue. Is it worth paying the extra £10 or not?

They're different indexes. The general rule is the higher the index the thinner the lens but there's only so much that can be done for some prescriptions (a -1.00 looks almost identical as a 1.67 and a 1.74), in some rare cases a higher index can give a thicker lens (I'm too out of practice to name them though).

I've picked up too many pieces from online orders and crap high street dispenses to trust anyone with my prescription (i work in independent optics, a whole different ball game) but if someone was offering me an upgrade to a 1.67 lens for £10 then I'd take it, but then I am vain and my wee -3 prescription is corrected with a 1.74 hydrophobic ogliophobic MAR coated transition lens.

Another endorsement for Ciliary Blue here.
Having read the positive comments on here, I decided to give them a go with an old pair of my husband's specs.
Service was superb. I had trouble filling in the online form as I needed to put 2 pieces of information in and there was only one space. I phoned the contact number provided, and the chap on the other end was fantastic.
Box arrived next day, I posted it back on Saturday and got the new specs today (Tuesday). Fantastic turnaround, super quality, fantastic price.
Will definitely definitely use them again.
  • Does anyone know a company I can send my glasses to for repair?

I have all metal glasses with a plastic coating over the stems. I accidentally bit the tip off one stem. Now the metal is exposed it is sharp behing my ear.

I did pop in to a few of High Street opticians to enquire about replacement stems. They said it couldn't be done and guided me to their new designer range to make a purchase. I didn't buy.

I have wrapped a bit of sticky tape as a temporary measure. I like these glasses as they have the flex hinge. The stems are tortoise shell but any colour would do. I thought of buying cheap reading glasses just to take the stems off but I'd rather have someone repair them for me.

Martin could you post a pic so I can see the extent of the damage?

If you use a site like photo bucket you can upload to there then copy and paste the link.

I think you've just chewed through the tips, if they come less than half way up your glasses it's a 5 minute job to replace them.

Have you tried an independent optician? Failing that I know for fact that Asda opticians can order tips in at no coar to the customer.
  • Thank you GlasweJen. Yes, it it the plastic tips as you describe them.
I will try an independent as you suggest. It can't cost that much.
