  • Hi veronarona,
We can reglaze any pair of glasses with polycarbs, they are strong and extremely light, but we have found after doing many thousands of rimless, that they become very brittle when drilled and tend to crack and 'star' around the drill holes. We tend now to use standard lenses as they have a higher success rate. If you wanted polycarbs they would cost the same as our 1.60 index lenses and it would mean giving us a call to order rather than on-line.
  • which type of lense are the lightest/ thinnest?

Also do anyone know where to get nose pad replacements from since the ones on my rimless glasses are going yellowish !
  • I'm 99.9% sure that polycarbonate are the lightest/thinnest lenses. I'm very impressed with the non-scratch properties of mine, too.

I don't know about nose pads - but they can't be difficult to replace because I'm sure I've seen offers for specs with spares included.

As a result of these forums me and my family have had their glasses made very cheaply, we have used ciliaryblue exclusively so much so that they have given me a loyalty promotion code that reduces the value of the pruchase by 10%, my friend used this same code today for her first purchase and got the same discount. Try and save a little more, the code is exp001. I hope it works for you guys too.

I tried the loyalty code but it had expired. However, they said that a new code would be issued soon and gave me 10% off for my cheek!
I wanted the best of all worlds - rimless Trivex varifocal reactions which are not on their website but I asked and they did them in 2 weeks. One day they´ll update their website!
I would certainly recommend Ciliary Blue

I appreciate that being a newbie my [first] post to follow will potentially be treated with some suspicion. So, rather than post with a gushing post-sale recommendation I thought I'd explain my situation and thought process pre-sale (so to speak). Allow me to explain.

I too have been hunting around for a cost-effective way to reglaze some eyeglasses I have. I am somewhat 'tough' on my specs and as a result the lenses do sratch over time. They have the scratch-resistant coating but based on how badly I treat them I invariably come to the point that when wearing the specs there's a 'blurring' from the many fine scratches I cause. So I buy a new pair and leave the old ones in a drawer.

I am shallow and will admit to religiously buying Prada frames from Vision Express...because of the label. To cut a long story short I went into my local store and was quoted well in excess of £100 for a re-glaze. Given my prescription is weak (-1.00 myopic in each eye) and I only wanted anti-glare and scratch-resistant I thought this excessive. Especially as the frames were well over £200. They've done well out of me so far, I thought. So, I've got about 3 pairs of specs I wanted reglazing.

I tried my local independent and was quoted the same. Fair enough if I am after varifocals or thinning or a strong prescription but you'd swear my lenses were 'demos' as they're so weak! I heard ASDA do this re-glaze service and I checked them out. They wanted £77 which considering their most expensive pair of COMPLETE specs is £80 seemed like daylight robbery...I wondered if they saw the 'Prada' and just made it up on the spot as I couldn't find a price-list.

Anyway. I've ordered through Ciliaryblue. They quoted £25 for the lenses with anti-scratch and anti-glare and I plumped for the extra £5 recorded delivery charge (just for peace of mind). The box has just arrived and I've sent them back.

As previous. I will report back on how the rest of the process is but so far everything has been really easy and the communication from them is good. Plus the box they send you arrived really quickly. The proof of the pudding is in the eating (if you ask my partner she'll tell you it sounds too good to be true) but I'm sending one pair, for now, as a 'test'...

Interestingly I told Vision Express my plans and they said it was so cheap as Ciliaryblue was using cheap and naff lenses. I thought all lenses would have to conform to a certain British Standard?

Guess we'll find out in a few days?

Anyone have a working code for ciliaryblue? Plan on getting my new frames fitted with lens.

I'm livid :mad: I've just come across 'reglazing' as an option from another finance website. I'm severely short-sighted and my prescription changed frequently until my 40s when it seems to be improving slightly . However, every time there was a change the optician was insistent that I needed new glasses and that my current frames couldn't be used. Given they would cost upwards of £300 (frames and lenses) and I wear contacts 95% of the time, I always resisted until I had the money/found somewhere cheaper.

Not once had any optician at Optical Express and, more recently, D&A suggested I could get my lenses reglazed so I wouldn't have to get new frames. That would have saved me £00s over the years. I'm due a sight test in about 2 weeks. If my prescription has changed again, I'll give them what for if reglazing is not mentioned :mad::mad:

    Bunch of thieving ............... :mad::mad::mad:

    Nobody told me either!

Only on my second pair of glasses but it would have still saved me the cost of the second pair of frames which I don't like as much as the first ones!!

Had my framed glasses reglazed by http://www.specs-by-post.com/ . Took less than a week and cost £10 plus postage for prescription single vision lenses without any coatings etc.

Very happy with the result, I can see what it says on my iPod now!

Just thought I'd post further to my first effort of April the 9th with an update*.

The specs were received back within 3 working days of posting - which I was very happy with - and I must say I'm very pleased. I simply cannot tell the difference between the Vision Express lenses I had previously and these ones from CiliaryBlue. The only difference seems to be that Vision Express wanted well over £70 more!

I've been so happy I've sent them another 4 frames to be done (not all mine, some are my partners). Look, nobody is out to expose anyones business model here but I'm think it's clear what the mark-ups of High St opticians are...

Just to be clear, when you're spending well over £300 on a complete pair of specs (as I have recently done) why would you then spend well over £100 only 2 years later to reglaze? Especially as both mine and my partner's prescription has changed slightly recently (-0.25 in each case) but the frames are still more than serviceable.

'Essilor crizal forte' (which are what I got from my local independent optician in my newest pair) lenses these are not...but I'm really happy with what I am getting from CiliaryBlue. I'm easily saving £70+ each reglaze.
