how to clean mildewy rim on washing machine seal?

I had this a few years back, and eventually gave up and replaced the seal. The repair man that came to do it, said it was caused by liquid detergents. They cause all sorts of problems, including rotting metals that are in contact with them during the wash/drain cycle.
I've had no such problems since using powder.
Oh thanks for that. I had the mould problem with my old machine, and nothing would shift it.
Eventually it broke anyway(luckily or unluckily) and I had to buy a new one. I'll be buying powder from now on:D

I've only ever had one washing machine, and never had this problem, so can't comment. I do leave the door open all the time,so possibly that helps
I'll add this to the exisiting thread on this subject to keep ideas together.

I never had this problem until I had a new washing machine 3 years ago, so perhaps it's something to do with newer models?0

Hello, just looking for some help from you wonderfully knowledgeable lot
The rubber bit of my WM (between the door and the drum) seems to have some black gunky mould type stuff in it
Just wondering if anyone has a tips on cleaning it? Many thanks

This happened on my old machine, I used a diluted solution of washing powder and gave it a good scrub. It did come back though eventually so i ended up replacing the seal.
After you finish your wash, leave the door open as long as you can and this will prevent the mould forming. x0 -
As well as leaving the washing machine door open permanently (except when it's doing a washing cycle:D) I also pull out the soap dispenser drawer slightly permanently (except when it's doing a washing cycle;)), so that there's a constant flow of air going through the machine.
I hope I don't jinx things:o by saying all this..............but my Zanussi washing machine has never developed mould, has never broken down and is still washing garments perfectly and is over 15 years old.:cool:10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Hi Snapping Crocodile:j
Just found you a thread on cleaning the mildewy rim on the washing machine - is that the kind of thing you mean? You should get plenty of suggestions in there. Off to read it myself
if so, I'll merge your thread with that one later
thanks

I think they are residue build ups. I do wipe them from time to time.Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.
