Dr Beckmann stuff has been on special offer at Sainsburys recently http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp?bmUID=1302966575923

We've had the same problem with ours recently. We've bought that Dr Beckmanns so hopefully it will do the trick. We have a 4yo and toddler, so are not comfortable leaving the washing machine door open.

You don't have one of those Indesit Moon machines by any chance? They were shown on Watchdog last night and looked disgusting... Meant to be self-cleaning, but they only have a 60 degree hot wash. So you can't run a 90 degree maintenance clean.

A little off topic but my washing machine has stopped 'taking' the fabric softner. Cleaning the draw out hasn't helped.Any ideas greatly received.

Do you live in a hard water area?

I live in a hard water area and had the same problem.

I took out the drawer and if you look at the top where the drawer fits you will see small holes where the water enters the drawer. I just found that the holes needed cleaning out, as they had become blocked with limescale (mine looked a bit black). I used a thin wooden/metal skewer and also used a small old tooth brush dipped in bleach to give the top a scrub.

As the title suggests I have some black mould on the rubber ring at the enterance of my washing machine, does anyone have any tips on how to remove it.
I have tried loads of cleaning products but none seem to work, i was thinking about socking cotton wool in bleach and leaving that on for awhile but thought this might damage the rubber?

    any tips greatly appreciated
    TIA
  • Dettol Mould and Mildew remover is great (but it smells very noxious).

Maybe spray it on, put in some kitchen roll and spray a bit more to help it soak. Leave it for 15 minutes, if some of it shifts then try it again, maybe for 20 minutes etc.

Can't imagine it would be that expensive to replace the seal though, try telephoning local engineers and ask for a quote to replace it.
