do what my Mum does... every time you take washing out, rub round the seal inside and out with a cloth kept just for the purpose and hung outside the machine on a sucky hook...

she's 20 years into a Miele doing that, whereas my Candy is mouldy after less than 2...

    go figure

Have you tried putting your washer onto a boil wash with nothing in it, then put a cup (or more if you want) of white vinegar into your fabric conditioner dispenser and rinse the washer. It worked when my washer had gone a bit rank round the edge!

Thanks for the helpful tips on here. Doing it now as we speak! :j

Try this thread, somewhere towards the end and this is discussed, although mainly about prevention rather than cure sadly. The problem is about doing most of our washing at low temperatures.

    Hi newseller,

There's an older thread on cleaning a washing machine seal that may help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the replies together.

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

    Hi

I used to have exactly the same problem with my old wm and nothing would seem to get rid of the mould. When I got my new one, I noticed when reading the booklet, that it mentioned leaving the door of the machine open after the machine has finished to allow it to dry out. I'm thinking that this must have some bearing on the problem, if the company has saw fit to put it in. Having said that, how many of us, when the wm has finished, empty it and then shut the door. I know I certainly did. With my new wm, I've been washing of a night and then leaving the door open overnight so that it dries out. I've also not been putting damp towels in there - this was something I did before because I don't like the smell of damp towels hanging around in the wash basket with clothes. Only problem now is that the towels sit in the corner of the kitchen till I get my head around where to store them ! One step at a time I suppose.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
