The plastic ring in our washing machine is really mouldy blackish. I have tried everything to scrub it off, even stardrops but nothing seems to help...

Anyone with some advice? It will be much appreciated!
  • We've got mould in the soap powder draw, what causes this? Is it because we use non-bio?

the door seal mould is not nice stuff  , and it recommends you wear a mask when trying to remove it. it will probably not come off, so you'll need to have it replaced. but once done keep the door ajar between washes.
  • Excellent, thankyou!

I just use a sponge and some diluted stardrops regularly, tooth brush if there is a tight space. If it's really bad a spot of eucalyptus oil
One day I might be more organised...........

Would the eucalyptus oil work if the mould has 'eaten' into the rubber? We moved into a flat where the washing machine was obviously left closed for a very long time, and there's a huge mould stain on the seal. I've tried everything, from bleach to stardrops, and although there's no mould coming off when I rub it now there's still a big black mark, which is really unsightly.

Worth a try, I got some off a very old window seal with eucalyptus oil mixed with cream of tartar, rubbed it on with a toothbrush and came off no problem. (Had tried bleach etc already) that was when I started using it instead, not been beaten by anything yet. Of course if that's been there ages and has stained it badly, might not come off with anything. Possibly replace seal if it bothers you ?

    Hi cotsvale,

We have an older thread on this subject that might help you, so I'll merge yours with it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together. As always, posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

I thought about it but I believe it's a costly job, and as it's not my machine (or a stain caused by me lol) I'm not keen on spending so much money. It's a fairly old, on it's last legs machine anyway, I think if I replaced the seal then the seal would definitely outlast the machine! I'll get some eucalyptus oil and give it a go though, sounds like just what I need for the bathroom too!
