Old Style Daily thread 28th May 2008

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 28th May. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

Churchmouse, you in charge of an angle grinder!  I suppose we should be glad you found something to keep yourself out of mischief for a while and at least you didn’t do anyone/anything any serious damage! :D
Jannyannie, Yes my cucumbers are outdoors. The greenfingered board is the best place to get advice about growing things as there are lots of experienced gardeners who post there. I only began growing veg last year so I’m very much an amateur. :o What’s the problem with your cucumber plants? If you don’t want to post on here, send me a pm and I’ll help if I can. Speaking of cucumbers…
Just for arkonite babe... one lonely tomato and my pride and joy! I wanted to put the pics up yesterday but needed ds1’s help to upload them from the camera to the pc. I’m afraid that technology and I don’t really get on!
Bargain Rzl, hope you’re feeling better today.

I went to bed early last night to try to catch up on some sleep but I only slept for a couple of hours and now I’m wide awake. :( The forecast is for rain tomorrow but I’ve just put a wash on in the hope that the met office have got it wrong.

I have my monthly team meeting at work this morning but thankfully I’ll be able to escape early as I need to take dd to school for her A level exam this afternoon. Then I might squeeze in a bit of housework before collecting ds2 from school (unless I manage to find something more interesting to do). ;)

Wednesday is ds2’s worst homework day as he has Maths and it’s not his strong point (or mine) and often ends in tears. While helping him with it I’ll make a turkey and ham pie for tea and some fifteens for the lunchboxes (special request from ds1), then get them all fed and watered and off to Beavers and Scouts before I head out to work for a rest!

I hope you all have a good day.

  • Moninrg Pink, and all those to follow. Hugs to all those feeling poorly, especially PP, Smokey, JackieO, Mrs Mix, and Bargain Rzl.

It's thundering here and absolutely chucking it down with rain, I was peacefully snoring away in my pit but the cat decided she MUST go out NOW so climbed over me and pawed at me mewing pitifully until I dragged myself downstairs. I TOLD her it was raining but she didn't believe me. I now have one soggy kitty and pawprints everywhere

It's shopping day for me (as long as I don't crash back into bed and fall asleep for hours) so I'm hoping the forecasters got it right-ish and the rain stops before the rush hour.

Last night's steak and ale pie was voted a great success and I managed to cunningly stash a second one away in the freezer before OH got his mitts on it :T . Tonight will be HM fish and chips, yum.

I think my tomatoes will be a goner, Pink. I'm sure they won't survive this deluge :(

I'm still coughing and spluttering with this pesky cold but I think it's on the way out now. Am naturally eternally grateful to my OH for graciously sharing his germs with me.

Have a great day everyone. Hope the homework goes well, Pink!

    Morning!

Haven't posted for a while so am sneaking back in.

Things have been a bit hectic with getting the mortgage sorted for the house we've (almost) bought but it seems to be all sorted. There's one snag, in that the contract has my OH's name as first name and last name only, but it should have had his middle name as well. Our broker assures us this is not a huge deal and is easy to rectify but it means that the mortgage has not yet been confirmed.

No work for me today and I've had a lazy day so far. Have just got back from the gym and I ACHE! Also popped to the supermarket and the aquarium shop. That's about all I've achieved today which is disgraceful as it's now 2.30! The apartment is a tip and I have all sorts of errands to do. Instead I'm watching bad tv! Oh well!

Am off to have a surf for information about dogs; we're thinking about getting one in the new house.

Hugs to all who need them

    Morning all

Thankyou Pink for starting the thread this morning, I think if no one else had been up today I would have left well alone after causing confusion yesterday :o
Pink, your cucumbers and tomatoes look brilliant :T, my cucumber plant is only starting to form fruit now and it's approx 8 - 12 inches tall. What's your secret???

Well it's kind of grey here this morning and it will probably rain later, knowing my luck I'll have half my work done, then it'll tip it down and I'll be like a drowned rat for the rest of the day.

Parents flew off on holidays yesterday (lucky them!) and I've just got an email through to say they arrived safely after a long flight. Downside of that is, I now have my brother to feed for 2 weeks he has the appetite of a horse!!

Tea tonight is braising steak that I forgot to lift out of the fridge yesterday, it's now been in the slow cooker so we can have that, pots and veggies for tea.

Right I must go get organised as I have to be at work by 06.15,

(((hugs))) to those who are in need or poorly, Pen Pin, smoky, JackieO :grouphug:

I'll catch up later, hope you all have a good day

Almo, I was going to comment and say you're very virtuous going to the gym at this hour of the morning, then wondered how did you get into an aquarium shop at 0530 in the morning.

Then the penny dropped, you're on t'other side of the world :doh::doh:

:rotfl: Have no illusions arkonite_babe, I'm definitely not the type to be in the gym that early!

    Morning.

    Seems wet out there today.

Off to work soon. I have so much to do I do not know where to start.

The chickens have finished hatching. No 9 never made it. So I did the right thing in switching it a while back.
Funeral yesterday was OK, I saw loads of people I had not seen in many years, so that was a bonus.
Well not much else to report. Have a nice day

    Morning all

It is absolutely pouring here, so at least the veg I planted at the weekend will be watered in

N9eav, sorry about number 9, you will have to post some piccies of the others if you can. I would love to keep chickens, but I think my neighbours might object as we live in the middle of an estate. We aren't allowed to keep them on my allotment either, so will have to keep buying lottery tickets and dreaming of a big house in the country :D

Work today, so sausage casserole and jacket pots for dinner, and I cooked some pasta last night, so will have that with tuna and salad for lunch

Did anyone watch the Apprentice, Sir Alan finally heard me shouting at the telly and fired Michael :rotfl:

Have a good day everyone x

    Morning all,

huge storm here last night as well.... hope weather improves for the weekend - don't fancy doing PGL activities in torrential rain.... :(

AB - that's exactly what I was thinking about Almo's post - I thought maybe the storm had done something funny & I was getting yesterday's thread posts in today's thread or something odd.... lol...... Then the penny dropped here too!!!

N9eav, sorry about egg no 9 - at least you won't have to deal with a disappointed daughter as well.
I'd like to get a gardener & they could grow veg for me (as well as slowly creating some nice flowerbeds) :) Was thinking I might advertise to see if there's someone who's retired & likes gardening, but doesn't have one & then they could share any produce as well.

Off to Hastings later for a goodbye lunch with one of the foster carers I worked with, kids at their father's (maybe, who knows?!) for supper later.

Haven't had time to get the blog up & running properly yet (Squiggly's Adventures in Internet Dating!) but will be meeting someone at the end of next week for a coffee..... (it emerges he lives about 500 yards down the road from me.....). :)

Have a good day all, congrats to those celebrating birthdays/anniversaries, and (((((((hugs)))))) to all those needing them.

My thought exactly   Hope Mr Churchie changed out of his suit before you went home on the tube ;)

Pink - can't you sleep with the excitement of having cucumbers :confused:Alas I don't even have plants, yet :o

I had a lovely time with my friends yesterday. I gave her a courgette plant and she gave me 3 peppers :j I came home and baked. Pizzas for tea, and a bara brith and a date and walnut cake. With the halves of coffee cake and lemon drizzle already in the tin, the Small Penguins should be well fed today :D I'm making Spanish omelette and blackcurrant smoothies for their brunch. Supper's veggie curry.

Happy Birthday to Busy Girl! Hope you can be less busy on your birthday

Have a great day, Penny. x

    Morning Guys!

Not feeling so good today:o and can just about move. I have taken some strong pain killers, so am hoping they will kick in soon. I have the nurse coming this morning to give me my injection, so might ask for something stronger.

DD is away this afternoon/evening with her cousin and his wife. They are taking her to the cinema, then something to eat. So OH has offered to make his signature dish of Steak, Chips, Mushrooms, Salad & Garlic bread:D...Im not eating much ATM but im sure I could manage a small amount;)

My mum called me yesterday to see if I was ok. They are on holiday ATM up north somewhere, but apparently there is a designer outlet and she has bought me a pressy:j :j :j :j :j ....she is going to send it via post as they are away for a few more days and I dont really see her very often. She said I will be proud of her as she saved lots of money off of it. Knowing mum, its probably a bag of some kind....not that Im moaning...but wish they could have dropped it in themselves, so I could have seen them:o ...or not even buy me anything at all...and just popped in.

I keep looking at my lovely flowers and have eaten a couple of the choccies. DD has claimed the teddybear though and hope thats ok. Twink gave me a list of all the people who kindly donated and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You know who you are! You are true friends. I will try and get OH to take a picture today so that you can see them.

WM needs to go on today, DW on after breakfast and the toilet has been cleaned:p

    (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((smoky))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

    Hugs and kisses to all.
