Ooooh...am not happy. OH just rang to cofess that it seems he accidentally threw out the leftover chicken from last night's roast. He went to find it to make chicken hotpot and it is nowhere to be found! He thinks he may have thrown it out with the bones last night.

Aaaaaaaah!!! There was enough for at least 2 portions in there, maybe 3!!! Then again with bird flu raising it's ugly head again, maybe it isn't a bad thing. But if we don't eat chicken and we are banned from red meat due to OH's high uric acid, and OH won't eat fish - it looks like we're going to turn vegetarian!

have you tried substituting turkey meat for chicken in your recipes? Its lower fat and often cheaper (breast meat leaner than dark meat byt dark meat makes awesome curries;) )

Time to join this thread I suppose! I decided last week that enough was enough and we needed to start to live on freezer food - we're quite thrifty and have been making double portions since we moved into the flat - the result is the freezer is now filled with stuff we don't actually know what it is! So by defrosting a random meal every day we've had:

    Spagetti bolognase & value spagetti
Mushroom curry (with curry queens tarka dhal) & brown rice
Chilli con carne & brown rice

So technically we're living free at the moment (though obviously we spent up on these dishes originally!)

The idea is to use up the vast store of food we have in our cupboards, fridge and freezer before we start to really budget our food.

Last night I also ate a raw pack of value jelly - it's a hiker thing I suppose (as raw jelly makes a nice snack when you're off on an expedition) but not exactly what I'd do regularly.

My budget will start next Monday and I hope to cover everything!

Congratulations Mrs Irwin:beer: May 12th is my mums birthday.
Another NSD here, havent been out at all as have been waiting for WM repair man. In meantime made some terrible drop scones:o The recipe said the pan should be really hot, i think it lied! They were burnt but just about edible, have a lemon cake in the oven so hoping that will be better:D

Can I ask all you lovely GC people do any of you use Eco Balls ? We use them for at least half our washes (worked really well on yucky nappies), also use Soap pods and washing powder (not together lol) for remainder of washes, and sometimes some softener. Just think these save us a lot of money on washing powder and wondered how popular they were among GC'ers!
    Thanks
Also updating my sig because I accidenty counted £10 as groceries when it was not used for that at all!!!!! Yippeee I can add £10 back on. :)

Hi everyone - hope you have enjoyed this sunny day - unfortunately I am stuck indoors at work. Congratulations Mrs Irwin - great news!

I had to get some bananas and brazil nuts this morning in the Co-op on my way to work. Have added £1-96 to my total. OH likes to have a snack in the afternoon and already eats loads of fruit so I give hime some dried apricots and handful of brazil nuts - healthy and hopefully not too fattening!

Better get on with some real work!

    Love M

I've been using eco balls and the screws (there is one per ball) went rusty got OH to send off for new screws from the company and they (the balls, that is) are waiting in the cupboard for me to replace the rusty ones. In the meantime I've been using soap pods and white vinegar with essential oils in it instead of fab conditioner. Have been known to use soapflakes and soda crystals. The washing machine in the house is broken (not my fault, nor is it the fault of the balls/soda crystals/ vinegar) and I've been using my friends' one accross the road. She thinks it's hilarious the new stuff I've been putting in her machine and regularly takes the p1ss out of me for it.

If you squeze the mix together does it form a dough, like pastry coming together?
