Morning all ,can't update my sig as I haven't recieved my receipt from Asda for my online shop delivered on Sunday:mad: so I don't know what I have been charged as their computer went down and I didn't recieve a delivery note.

Not amused as I need the codes to phone up and complain about my out of date and wrong items for a refund Grrr.

Anyway I thought I would let you know that smart price 1kg rice is currently 45p online and instore,I Also bought Great scot broth mix 500g for 19p in Asda.

Also I buy the net of onions 5kg for £1.75 in Asda and chop some up and freeze them,I had some sprouters and I have planted them and they have flower heads on them,so I hope to get some onions out of them.

I hear people talking about a sack of potatoes ,asda currently has 2.5kgBags at 2 for £2 so 5kg for £2 not bad. This does DD and I 4-6 WEEKS.

How much is in a sack anyway:confused:

    Morning all

Its raining and lovely and cool here this morning :j ....we need a bit of a break....not rubbing it in but it has been soooooo hot... not good for me or the veggies..so this morning i have been scooting about outside checking everything is ok...and catching slugs whilst i was at it..caught 23 of the little blighters (all now safely plonked on the bird table..well hopefully they are no longer there ;) )

This is my 4th NSD in a row :A :p ... but i will be going to LIDL tomorrow as its the start of their British week -so the extra mature cheddar is in -400g for €2.99 ...half what you pay in the NAFFI (unless i get it whoopsed -which i do):T ..so i may have to get 12 blocks :o.... I keep a seperate small fund for bulk buying -so i may have to tap into that  .. But i think i will initially take it out of this month and see how i go..if i think im going to run short i will take it from the bulk budget ;)
The quiches were a hit..but hubby does prefer the bacon, onion and mushroom to the minted pea n goats cheese ....shame eh?;) i guess i will just have to be a good wifey and use the half that is left for my lunches :D .
He must have liked the other one as he had a piece for brekkie..well i guess eggs, bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes is part of a brekkie :rotfl:. I don't think i will be going back to using milk and eggs again... i don't make them that often but i will stash any whoopsed double cream i see for future use -that lot was the lolsley farm extra creamy jersey stuff mmmmmm
We still have half of each left and as hubby is away until this evening in a golf comp -so i don't know what time to expect him back i will plate up a quiche with salad and hm coleslaw for his dinner tonight and freeze the last piece of each... which means thats another meal on my menu plan this week saved :j ...think i will cross of the jacket and cottage cheese as i need to pick up jackets..so that will save me getting them...
I also have to cross another one off as i have some of the cream, egg and cheese mix left from the quiche and a portion of hm chicken n sweetcorn soup (that has gone lovely n thick) -so that is screaming creamy chicken, sweetcorn and veg pasta bake for dinner tomorrow -so that leaves southern chicken and hm coleslaw in tortilla wraps with salad or thai turkey with noodles and naans (which will use up the last of the bucket of tzatziki ;) )
so it looks like i will cross off the southern wraps too :D oohhh i like this :D

ooohhhh the flowers are now dropping off my broad beans and revealing itty bitty pods :j so i was out there last night pinching the tops out before the blackfly find out where they are ;) ... broad beans, new potatoes and bacon here i come  ..

Now who was asking about growing courgettes the other day? sorry i can't remember the name (some days i can't remember my own:p )... just wanted to say..when they start to flower don't panic if the flowers just drop off taking about 1cm of the stem with them (it looked like someone hat cut them off:confused: ). I had lovely flowers on..got all excited... then THAT happened and you would have thought it was the end of the world i was gutted ... but having checked up.. it seems that quite often male flowers appear first and if there are no females around they drop off as they are no use ..phewwww
i have had the 1st 4 do it... hoping that the next ones to appear are female ones..can't cope with the anticipation again :rotfl:

right i have waffled enough or should that be too much ...again :p
have a great day everyone :D

At the weekend, SmartPrice potatoes were 75p for 2.5kg in Asda at Huyton, Liverpool - and they were Desiree ones as well - no green bits and no sprouts on them. Great Bargain!

    Morning everyone!

I'm beginning to enjoy this money saving/make/grow your own thing!

I made some of twinks hobnobs yesterday which were delish :-) This morning I have a pot of chicken stock on the go ready to make soup with and have baked some homemade bread too...yum.:p

BTW do you think it works out much cheaper to make your own bread than buy shop bought? I have noticed it's gone up in price a lot recently.

We usually have a go at growing veggies (although last year was a complete disaster due to the appalling weather we had.) The only thing is this year it's a bit tricky with having a new 11 week old baby to look after, a bit like a juggling act and everything seems to take much longer than usual! However I have managed to dig over one of the raised beds we have got and there are salad leaves, radish, strawberries and tomatoes on the go. Have also got some seed trays/pots with various squashes/courgettes and beans in and hope to pot some more seeds up this week including rocket and fennell. Just hoping the ground will be dug over and ready for them to go in. Will have to get hubby to help!

  • Hello , late joining i know but i'm going to go with 200 pound again! I think i wil manage that. So far we've got our big shop in and it was 77 pounds. I hope. We went on holiday last month and so budgets went out the window and i'm in a spending mood so i need to keep a check on myself this month. I'm not even going to attempt to catch up with 47 pages, i'll just start from here. Hello to everyone and i hope your all well and on budget.
  • Oh you all put me to shame with all your home baking/growing and generally being domesticated!! lol

Consoling myself with the fact that we only got married and moved in together in September so up until this point I had done nothing domesticated at all!!

Can anyone suggest something EASY that I could try to cook/bake? So far the most adventurous I have got is chicken and broccoli bake or lasagne!!

Hi, I have a lovely recipe for Bubble & Squeak - even DS liked it, and he turned up his nose when he first looked. It's from the love food, hate waste website - here's the link if anyone's interested, some lovely recipes on there.
    http://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/recipes/show/23

    Bubble & Squeak
    Serves 4
    • 1 red onion, finely chopped
    • 4 rashers streaky bacon, cut into small pieces
    • 450g leftover mashed potato
    • 300g leftover mixed cooked vegetables – roast parsnips, green beans, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli or peas, chopped into small pieces.
    • Flour
    • 25g melted butter
    • 25g grated hard cheese
    • 1 tablespoon Sunflower Oil
    • Black Peppercorns
    • Salt
    Instructions
    1. Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the onion for 4-5 minutes until soft. Add the bacon and cook for a further 3-4 minutes or until it begins to turn a golden colour. Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the bacon and onions into a large bowl.
    2. Add the mashed potato and cooked vegetables, season well. Add the cheese, mix well and divide the mixture into six portions. Using your hands, shape each portion into a cake.
    3. Put onto a greased baking tray and brush with a little melted butter. Bake in a preheated oven (200°C/400°F/ mark 6) for 25 minutes or fry on both sides until golden brown. Serve with a poached or fried egg.
    Freeze ahead
    • These bubble and squeak cakes also freeze brilliantly so if you don’t manage to eat them all you can enjoy them another day; simply freeze them at the end of step 2.
