Savingfortravel and Dink1 - I do hope your OHs get sorted out soon, my OH was made redundant last summer and though he still hasn't found a permanent job he has been working through agencies with only 3 weeks off for almost the last year, so there is hope.

I received notice myself of redeployment/redundency last thursday but I have 6 months before the chop and there might be a job for me in another department of the council I work for so I'm not quite ready to hit the Heros myself.:D

I think the next few months are going to be hard on quite a few of us so I'm just so glad that there are so many wonderful people here to rely on:A

Our Asda doesn't sell them - I even got DD1 who works there to check up for me. I could't find them in Mr T either but tracked them down in Home Bargains and Savers.

I forgot to add a £2.32 I spent in MrTs on Sunday. I bought a reduced loaf of warbutons for 32, some crumpets for 7p, some asparugus reduced to 88p and some broccoli so not too bad. I'm on the committee for my son's preschool and we are organising a race night. I've just had an email through with a list of what committee members have to provide for their table
Tablecloth & Napkins, Plates &Pudding bowls, Crisps & Dips, Salad, Sour cream, grated Cheese & French stick. Make / buy pudding.
Now I've already got a table cloth but will need to buy all the rest. I've got local access to Asda, Netto and Lidl and Wilkos-any advice on where I can buy the above for the cheapest possible price? I've got cheese already I've just remembered and a grater! I will make a pud as well in true OS style-can't decide whether to do Eton Mess or pavalova-all suggestions will be gratefully received!

Self raising flour isn't really very good for making bread although there have been a couple of herby breads posted on here that used it. These didn't use yeast though. How about making a few cakes or biscuits. I can definitely recommend Twink's hobnobs.

Sorry haven't acknowledged your reply before now, am trying to catch up with all the posts, this thread moves so fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will have a looksee when I get a chance and it's not this late, it seems a shame to waste all that flour, and I'm sure the weans wouldn't mind a few homemade cakes or biscuits (so long as they're not just suitable for OH to build with that is)

Wow- I've missed a lot just skimming. Good luck to those of you job hunting!
Naomim- when I saw you were going to Iceland for your son's birthday my first thought was about the extravagance for a childs birthday and thought it was probably a special one, then I wondered why Iceland and then it dawned on me that you meant the shop- D'oh! This night working lark is turning me insane (well can't really blame work but I can try!).
Just been trying to decide what to do with my 3 MrM vouchers from this week so will have a look on the Mr T site and see if anything appeals. If not then I'll buy 15 bottle of surf small and mighty cause I like the smell, 2*2 cases of lager and then will have £30 left (unless of course I manage to use my out of date token at the self scanners and then I'll have another £30 to spend!). May go and get more coffee and tea bags as we are on our last packet of tea bags. Loo rolls is always a good one and I could also start buying in DS's school uniform trousers which would then miraculously not fit! Although saying that he needs some airtex shirts for p.e. and some shorts. I won't get him shoes until he's at school though. I made sure to buy him birkenstock type sandals http://www.completelykids.co.uk/prods/324.html in brown (cheaper and not so wide though) so they will do him when he first starts provided the weather is ok. I've told him that if his feet grow too much I'll chop his toes off! (Mind you I said that to DD after she grew 2 shoe sizes in 6 weeks and she's only gone up 1 size in the last year)

    Hi Guys!

My freezer is once again fit to burst! but still feel the need for shopping (its like a compulsion lol) but do need some stuff for munchkins pack up. Has anyone tried cookin own ham, does it work out cheaper than the packed stuff? Have started buying an extra chicken and cooking it, chopping the meat off (carcass for soup very mse!!!) and freezing meat for sandwiches. It works out loads cheaper, far healthier and tastes better. Have decided Will only get dried stuff and crisps from Mr A and be strong:A .

Backseven - have you tried wilkos aka Wilkinsons they are always good for cheap cuttelry and bowls etc, also for nachos mr a does a pack for 19p (smartprice) also peanuts (although kids under 5 shouldn't eat them) for 21p. There are a number of recipes for dips. one I regularly use is lowfat mayo and chop onion and garlic and give it a jjjjuvvvv (use hand blender) which always goes down a bomb with family. You could also make the bread sticks from this site (sorry don't know how to do links) or possibly just cheat and buy them

JayJay14 I hope that you don't get the chop, I cant believe the amazing support from the guys on here. I am pleased I started the GC last month at least now I know I am in control of spending (well nearly!:rotfl: ) apart from the hereos lol. Not sure how diet is this week but telling self that these are medicinal.

Mumzyof2 Yes according to my supermarket.com (have to put in postcode) Mr A does soda crystals. I am off to Mr A to get some odds today so will look if this is the case.

Wow thanks dink1! I will be off on Thursday to Wilkos and Mr A and definitely going to make my own dip-didn't think of that! I shall be decanting my smart price nachos into a bowl before I get there so the posh mummys with kettles don't see me! Just call me Hyacynth!
