grumble grumble....2 additional mouths for tea tonight in the form of step kids (aged 9 & 5). Not a problem - made mahoosive lasagne bulked out with tinned tomatoes, grated courgette and porridge oats (plus another one for the freezer of course!). Felt very proud of myself.
Then went up to do the ritual of drying hair after their bath only to discover that whilst OH had been 'supervising' them (although obviously not very well!) they had managed to empty our new bottle of shower gel into the bath. We now have 1cm left in the bottom and I only bought it on Monday. Luckily it was a Lidl special rather than anything expensive, but it now means that I'll have to go back to a shop as we don't have another bottle (normally I keep a spare in the cupboard but am trying not to hoard so much!)
bu**er it
ps on the plus side, they loved the lasagne!Jonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz

Thank you SFT - I am also toasting it with a glass of Sprite! I say glass - in fact it's a plastic tumbler as the OH has decided I'm too clumsy to be allowed glass at the moment. Anyone would think I was 6 not 27!!
Thanks everyone for your support on this forum - very inspiring and fun too. That's probably why so many people are sticking to itJonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz

 Hmm, well I'm a bit annoyed with myself because I've gone over again and I'm particularly disappointed because I had vouchers too. However, onwards and upwards and all that ...
Just got back from my weekly shop. I've decided to do it on my way home from work as I pass Tesco every day and it seems daft making a special journey tomorrow when petrol is so expensive and time is tight.
I spent £33.72, which is £3.72 over budget - but it's worse than that. This is with a £10 voucher taken off. OFF.
The upshot is a lot of this stuff is organic or local/UK produce. I also took advantage of special offers (buy 2 for £3, that kind of thing, instead of paying the initial £1.68 for just one), which I won't have to buy again next week, plus Whiskas pouches are very cheap at the moment at £2.25 for 12 instead of £3.05, so I got 2 of those too.
The good thing is it's still considerably less than the £50 - £60 per week I was regularly spending, so perhaps if I lower my budget even further ...
I almost caused a riot too and had 3 members of staff looking for British apples. They didn't have any. Not a single one. Even the Cox's Orange Pippins were from New Zealand and Chile. Determined to find some British fruit, I ended up with rhubarb ...
Rhubarb. (Sigh.)
What can I do with rhubarb? I'll be searching the threads. :rotfl:
Oh yes, and strawberries from Hereford instead of Egypt, and mushrooms from England instead of Ireland. I don't have anything against Ireland, and if it was Ireland or Israel, Ireland would've won. I'm just trying to keep my food miles down. Got some Yorkshire skimmed milk, though.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Orkneystar - I have tried all the main supermarket own brand bread flours and Lidl is by far the best in my opinion. I make my bread by hand and always get a lighter loaf with the Lidl one.0

evening all,
you don't read the thread for 24hrs and 4 pages pop up!!!
well had a fab day today as my mum decided she was treating me to some shopping. so i now have all the food i need for next week and then some, plus i have about 15 pints of milk frozen  and 3 litres of free UHT and i have coupons for 2 more free litres, i think i might have enough milk for the next two or three months
and i seriously need to rearrange my kitchen to fit all this food in, my freezers are fit to bursting and i actually have tins on the counters as i can't put anymore in the cupboards
on the upside mum has given mine & OH the chance to come in about £30 under budget if we use up all our in house food first
& that means more to pay off debts
Welcome to all the newbies :hello:Nonny mouse and Proud!!
