    Afternoon folks!

Just on to up date sig...spent £1.12 in MrT last night and then popped into MrA this morning to see if they had any of the dog food I wanted (they didn't!) and ended up spending £3.50 on a couple of bottles of water and 4x4packs of yoghurt (2 lots of yeo valley greek down from £1.74 to 89p and 2 of Rachel's organic down from £1.37 to 69p)...brilliant bargain as the earliest date on them was 29 June and one was 9 July!!! (and we would eat yogs well past use by anyway).

So although that has taken me a couple of pounds over I am not too bothered as it is my first month, we bulk bought some stuff at the beginning of the month that will take us into July (and beyond!) and just doing this has made us pay a lot more attention to what we spend, eat and waste (or not, as is the case now!).

Really optimistic for July, despite the fact I will need to stock up on some baking bits/cereal etc...and really looking forward to it too! Who would have thought living on a budget could be so much fun??!

Thanks Zoe for the tip on the dog/cat food...think we will definitely be getting that when we run out next time as it seems very good quality and half the price of what we normally buy!

Glasses wearers-have you tried ordering them from one of the budget online places? My DH got new ones recently and despite the fact he needs to get considerably thinned down lenses he got a really nice pair, which he is very happy with for about £30!! Lots of people at his work have them too (one guy has about 6 pairs  )! Maybe worth considering as the price of glasses on the high street is just scary!

Right, the sun has finally come out here so think DS and I will go for a walk (well I will walk and he'll just lie in the pram!! :rotfl: )to Somerfield to cash in our free milk coupon (thanks annelouise:T ) and have a look in Iceland for the meat/fish bits that someone mentioned as being good for cats-won't be buying them today though...not even going to take any money! :A

Best of luck to those (like me) who still have a few days left of June's challenge, huge congrats to those who have come in on/under budget and to those who have gone over...don't despair, there is always next month...and just think what you could have spent!!

totally off-topic i know, but i've been reading up on colonic hydrotherapy, and i'd LOVE to have this done!! yeah yeah i know, i'm weird, but i just wondered if anyone on here would admit to having had it done, and if the benefits were as good as they say?

I'll join you in being weird :rotfl:. It's something I fancy having done too.

    Afternoon folks',

I said I did not need anything today :o but we went to MrS to get fuel for the car and while we were there OH said he needed his magazine  so in we went, i got some coffee grounds for the garden (free) :j and then we walked around but I kept telling him ,we did not need anything, we tried the vegetable rolls that they had to try ;) and then he saw bananas priced down so he had to get some, now I need a recipe for something with bananas and pineapple in so the fruit does not go to waste, :D I thought of a cake but dont know how to go about it I need a recipe and instructions. :T Does anyone know any good recipes for cake or bread or something, pleeeeez.
I was quite pleased with myself that I did not buy anything else, the pineapple he bought a few days ago and it is nearly gone off.

    HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!

denisefowler the colosan sounds draining :rotfl: :rotfl:

I had a spare couple of bananas and just mashed one, added it to my usual cake recipe (175g each of SR flour, butter sugar, 3 eggs whizz up with hand mixer). I chucked it into a loaf tin, sliced another banana on top, sprinkled sugar on and baked at 180 for about 40 mins.

I took it to work and it went down a treat

OMG I just did a stock take of my cupboards!! I have got: 9KG pasta, 7KG rice, 15KG flour, 1KG lentils & 1KG cous cous (plus the pasta, rice, etc that's in the kilner jars on the worktop - prob over 4KG) (total 37KG+ ) and 41 tins in my cupboard!!! I know its good to have a well stocked cupboard but maybe I've taken it a bit far? :rotfl: Am I alone in doing this? :o

I'm definitely not gonna buy any more pasta rice or flour until I've used it all up! Or try not to

    :T Hey all,

Have been busy with getting ready for himself coming over ,parents evening and cake stall goodies ( Twinks of course ) for the last few days so haven't posted but have been keeping up to date.

Really glad for those who have been able to get free milk vouchers.

Have made HM lemonade, lemon drizzle buns, pastryless cheese, onion and bacon quiche, marshmallow krispie bars, passatta and bags of cooked lentils and onions for the freezer in the last couple of days.

Courgettes are now 10 inches high, lettuces are 3in and toms are 1 1/2 inches so looking all rosy in the garden. Can anyone tell me how high the courgettes will get before they flower???? Am I looking at another 6 inches or another 20??? I don't know so any help appreciated.

I am declaring Junes spends as 209.35 euros as OH is here and has brought the following -

    3 x boxes jaffa cakes
    4 x pkts custard
    6 x packets semolina
    1 x drum gravy granules
    1 x large mango chutney
3 x large blocks mild cheddar
    4 x strwb jelly
    1 x hamburger relish
    25 x pepperami - yuck
2 x family bags lookilike mintoes
2 x family bags foxes glacier fruits
2 x family bags of jelly babies
1 x family bag of minstrels that I have eaten in the last 4 hrs....Well I don't have chocolate from 1 month to the next where I would eat it daily as my former fat self!! So infact I've done myself a favour as I don't need to think about them again - oh I did give ds4 about 6 of them so I'll call it sharing.

Popped to shop for fruit, baguette, mayo, yoghurts and have deducted a percentage off next months budget as I won't use 3 kg of apples by Monday if you see what I mean.

So MrsM ( or stand in ) put me down for 209.35 euros = £165.78 which is £10.00 less than my family allowance.:T

For July I have 5 days with a family of 5 visitors an overlap of 10 visitors for 3 days and then 10 days with another 5 visitors so my Summer July 2008 budget will reflect that in as much as I have bought beer and wine that is stashed for the term but as we are not holidaying until Nov 22nd this is our holiday as such.

July budget will be 425.00 euros = £336.69 daily = £10.86 per day on food and drink and household stuff only for a very popular family of five.Off site entertainment will be out of other budget.

and thanx for the interest boredofbeingathome , greent , and justamum guess i'll have to be the guinea pig and report back on what it's like before anyone else'll have a go :rotfl:

well i've managed an NSD today and i'm hoping i only need a couple of things when i go and do my gran's shopping in town in the morning. i'm trying to find someone who sells free range eggs, cos i bet they'll be loads cheaper than the shops. i'm sure i've seen a van that comes round the streets that sells them, so i'm gonna keep my eyes peeled

hope everyone's managing to stay on target for the end of the month, but don't be disheartened if you haven't done it this month. just think what you WOULD have spent before you started this challenge ;)

Hi everyone not been on for a few days. Not had chance to catch up and read all the posts inbetween but everyone seems to be doing really well:T
Quick update from me spent £14.37 in netto, i just couldnt resist the bargains, and £4.00 in farmfoods. That brings my total spend this month to £93.62:T . My budget was £120 which i would normally easily of spent and more probably but my freezers we're fit to burst and we were on hol till the 6th. Next month will be more difficult tho as my freezers have been hammered so may need to stock up quite a bit. I've got mr t coming on monday morning so i'll be starting my july budget from then. I'm going to aim for £110 this month to really test myself. i need to stop buying stuff just because it's on offer (a terrible habit of mine) and start batch cooking more now i've got some available space in my freezer.
