Worth checking out the book people online for kids presents-often book sets at 10/12 books for £10- great to be split for presents, I always have some in a drawer for nursery presents. :-)

I get their stuff through work, gave lots away last Christmas. They do a nice set of hand made birthday cards as well.
Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j

I wont declare until after the weekend - my month ends on 30th June but Angelnikki could you please put me down for £285 for next month, I'm slowly trying to reduce our spends as our income will be reduced from next month by about £170 a month:eek: so need to tighten our belts a lot!

Hi Guys, I'm ready for the challenge I think. I've had a chat with other half and decided on £100 for July. There is only 2 of us after all and we can be quite creative after all. I'm starting from today as I actually have some spare money from last month :j . £25 a week is not too bad for a couple. I know there's some people on here that can do a month on £40 but it is out first month so I'm not going to be that brave. We did used to do it when we first lived together but now we have a bigger fridge, freezer and a whole pantry. We're going to try picking elderflower this week as well and make either jam or cordial so I'll let you know how we go. By the way the banana cake was a complete success and my Gran is so proud of me. She used to be a cooking and sewing teacher so she's hard to impress sometimes. I'm going to do my first shopping trip at Aldi as my sister loves it and it's within walking distance instead of Mr A which is only 8 miles but I'd have to use the car.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I now feel ready to have a good go at this challenge. I've also got my sister on this website and thinking about her food budget. She's just moved out with her boyfriend and it doing fine with money but you can always do better.

  • morning,

hoping for a nsd but not sure i'll make it. am feeling rather tired and might treat myself to lunch at the work canteen.

think we'll still be under budget tho, OH has HM food for the rest of the week and i don't need anything from the shops so i'll be staying out of them.

    Morning all!

MrsM - thinking of you and sending positive thoughts for your family at this time.

Well, did my last shop of the month last night - £16.17. Won't be shopping again now so I'm going to declare £62.53 please Angelnikki (and thanks for stepping in!)

I've been having a think about budget for July. It's a five week month for me, and originally I was going to leave it at £20/week. But I've decided to try cutting back and see how it goes - might just scrape it if Whiskas doesn't go up too much more  So...

Please put me down for £80 for July

Welcome to all the newbies, congrats to all those who are declaring withing budget, and commiserations to those slightly over - we're all winners really.

Have a good weekend everyone - see you on the July thread!

Have been away for a couple of days (only one night) for DD1s birthday, (one of the big ones) and still trying to catch up. I am only up to page 126, but if I wait any longer I will never get to post my total.

Pay day today, so yesterday was the end of June's budget. At first glance it doesn't look too bad at 261.46, considering the blow out at Costco earlier.....but that doesn't include anything spent while we were away:eek: .
I paid for the flights (2p each return for 5 of us :j ) and the appartment, approx 100 pounds for the one night, and DH paid for the spends including food, transport, activities etc.

I have no idea what the total was, but I would like to nominate Dublin as the most expensive city I have ever visited, and glad we only had two days there  , with apologies to anyone I may have offended by my statement.

Admittedly because it was so short a time we didn't venture far from the touristy parts, but even so we spent over a months grocery (inc toiletries and cleaning) bill on meals. This was only two evening meals including only 5 alcoholic drinks between us in total, one coffee and cake (well a drink each and one scone, one muffin and one slice of fruit cake between us) and our one breakfast that was French bread and jam bought from the local Spar. No lunches, day one as below, and lunch on day 2 omitted due to late breakfast and planned early dinner.

Our flight out was delayed by nearly 6 hours, a significant proportion of our two planned days, so had to get something to eat at the airport, we had not had breakfast as we got up at 4 a.m.

As had happened on our last holiday (and both flights) as soon as we had bought our unplanned food because of flight delays there was an announcement that food vouchers were going to be provided. We decided not to waste them at 3.50 each, and got some sandwiches to take with us for lunch. I was still saying '3.50 for a sandwich!' even though they were free.

Anyway, total declared for June 261.46, that is 11.46 over, or 4.6%, as I would not have spent anything else if we had stayed at home. Have still got lots of storecupboard and freezer items, so hope to be in budget of 250 pounds for July.

Will try to catch up later, spent yesterday afternoon and evening chasing Superlambananas and need to do some housework now and back to work tomorrow. Just remembered I eventually bought the food flask from Wilkies yesterday, so need to search for the yoghurt making thread.

Congratulations to those who managed their buget this month, and better luck next time for those who didn't.

    Zzzzz

Right, posting this to see if my signature works :D

Went shopping to Mr T's yesterday, I know I said I'd only shop on line but I needed some of the stuff straight away. Anyway, DD2 and I stuck to our list and actually couldn't find some of the things we'd listed so were a lot under what we thought we'd spend which I think was good.
Going to try meal planning again tonight and living out of our stores.
I refuse to start my other challenge (Living on £2000 for 6 months) 'til the beginning of July or I think I'd get totally confused, not hard with me though if you've read some of my other posts :o

Oh dear, made a bit of a bobbox with June's challenge, but still I remain undeterred! Am now officially on my maternity leave so being more O/S should get easier from now on (fingers crossed!). Am declaring a spend for June of appx £160.00 . Can't be more exact cos I stopped counting in despair . Anyway can you put me down for £140.00 for July please Angelnikki. Think I was being a little optimistic last month and I do need to stock up so hopefully I can manage on that.
  • Hi All
Have lost my way this month - last month I eagerly entered all my spends in my book straight away and knew exactly where I was but this month I've saved them in a heap and am dreading working my way through them but I know I must. Hopefully will give it some time tonight so can post figure. I'm sure I'm not over budget though which is good. The disciplin of the first two months has stayed and so spending less. Last week was OH birthday and with the money I saved previously I had enough to spend so didn't use savings. Also instead of meal out he opted for home cooked celebrations. This added to our weekly bill but saved a fortune compared to eating out.
Will catch up with the 50 or so posts later. Massive hugs to all.:grouphug:
