ohh we are having boiled gammon for tea. I normally cook it with sliced oinions and chopped carrots, we have lots of stock left over and this makes my famous gammon chowder.
now here is the secret recipe... shh...... take the left over stock and any bits of carrot and onion in it. add a diced potato and what ever bits of gammon are left,, and cook untill the spud is cooked,, while stiring squash the veg agasint the side of the pan to break it all up a bit. your aming for smallish chunks. if it needs thickening, then sprinkle some instant mash in..
you can add a little grated cheese if you want,
and i normally serve with cheese scones.. filling and very warming..
also make a cheats carbinara... cheese sauce, pasta and chunks of gamon and some mushrooms.
or gammon and leak pie..
sadly there wont be any left of ours tonight as we are feeding BIL and d neice and d nephew ...today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

Use it in fried rice, omelette, pie with a white sauce, lentil soup or simply reheated with a cheese sauce. These threads should help:

If you're feeling flush why not try chicken and ham pie? You can also just cut it up and put it on sandwiches. My favourite meal is a gammon sandwich! Otherwise you could try the 'love food hate waste' website, you can find most things there.0

So as the title suggests I have a ton of gammon left over from tonights dinner, enough to serve another 4 people! It's too good to feed to the dog, (although she had her share from the left overs on the plates)
So any ideas what I can do with it (I'm trying to learn to be more efficient) and also can these ideas be frozen?

Use it in sarnies, chop some up and freeze for using in chinese food (special fried rice etc) or on pizza.
In my house most of the leftover gammon if not immediately packed away incurs an awful rate of taxation by the person clearing the table and washing up. :eek:0 -
As ThisYear says - chop it up and freeze. I have some chopped up gammon in the freezer from the weekend and will use it with basic pasta and tomato sauce and will also use some in soup (possibly pea and ham soup or just general veggie soup with additional ham).
I've also used the chopped pieces before in a leek and ham pie (with a creamy sauce).
my biggest challenge is getting it to the freezer before it's been picked over and there is very little left!0 -
I'd probably split it into two, use half in a soup (split pea and ham or a minestrone-type stew) and freeze the remainder for another day, either for another soup or perhaps to be used in a pasta bake or similar.
The soup could probably be frozen. Not sure about the pasta bake.NSD May 1/150 -
I'm having gammon tonight that was cooked and frozen last week. As long as its heated thoroughly throughout before eating, it will be fine. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
