I cooked some gammon in my sc today and it was so dry, it was diificult to chew and swallow! I don't want to waste it, does anyone have any recipes? please. My OH does not like onions or pasta. I do substitute leeks for onions. Could I make panacklty? with dry gammon? Thanks. Jan.0

I cook ham quite often (I tend to boil it) and if any is left over and goes a bit dry I chop it up and add it to a vegetable soup. It gives a lovely flavour.0

Hi Janice:hello:
Did you cook it on it's own? Curious as to how it was so dry.....
It seems sensible to use something including a sauce. What about using it in some pies with a white or cheese sauce? Some links for you
Leftover gammon
Cooking a gammon joint in the slow cooker (so you can see what others do and maybe how you went wrong?)
Could you use it in some sort of bubble and squeak? Or in lentil soup or leek and potato soup to give a meaty taste?
Am sure there is a thread on Panackelty, I just can't put my fingers on it (as probably not spelling it right.....:rotfl:)
I'll add this to the leftover gammon thread later, to keep the information together:)
thanks

I think I mat have left it in sc too long as it was smaller than usual. My OH won't have soup either, so I may go for the sauce over slices. Thanks for your quick replies. Jan.0

Hi all,
We've got gammon, egg and chips for tea tonight using a gammon joint I cooked yesterday.
However, I think there will be quite a bit left so I was wondering what I can make with it for lunch at work tomorrow ?
I thought about a kind of 'gammon fried rice' with egg, rice, onion, mushrooms and gammon but I'm not sure what it would be like? Could I add soy sauce and shaoshing rice wine or would this make it toooo salty?
Also, my egg fried rice always (well the 2 times I've made it!) goes all clumpy - how do I stop this?
If I could get rice like the chinese takeaway but with bits of gammon I think it would be really nice!

Have it with a fried egg in the morning for the perfect ham & egg banjo!

I'd love to but I just don't have time for cooking in the mornings and I really need something for lunch tomorrow too!
Forgot to say, we do have a microwave at work so whatever I make can be heated.

I normally add any leftover gammon either to lentil soup or a pasta salad.0

Stir Boursin into hot pasta and add the gammon - very quick and easy (and very good!), or use cubed in a cold pasta salad.
I have been known to cube the leftovers of a gammon joint and freeze for quick throwing into pasta/pasta bakes or omelettes etc. Obviously the smaller the cubes, the quicker they defrost during cooking."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper
