One of the main "problems" is that the symptoms of early pregnancy are very similar to the symptoms of a period...
  • Pregnancy tests test for the hormone hCG - human chorionic gonadotropin. It's only present in pregnant women. The earlier on in the pregnancy a person is, the lower the levels of hCG for the test to detect. Hence that's why you can get false negatives but not false positives.

HGC levels are usually higher first thing in the morning, or when you haven't been to the loo for any length of time so this is teh best time to test.

Try again in 48 hours, the HGC levels double every 48 hours.

Poundland have two pregnancy tests in a pack for (strangely lol) £1! I bought them when DH was convinced i was pregnant, I was convinced i wasnt so didnt want to pay for an expensive test.

They are dip tests, little harder to use but it came up a faint positive (gobsmacked!!) so did the other the next day positive again. Bought a more expensive one positive again! Turned out I was 'just' pregnant when i did the cheap tests but they still came up positive so i was very impressed!!

The resulting baby is now having his nap! lol

Try those ones instead of pricey ones.

i used one of these pregnancy tests from poundland. They were what my friend picked up for me. I wasn't sure if i was pregnant so did the test and then another a week later ... both negative! ... I booked into my doctors as I could have sworn I was and the test (done next day) was positive and I was 9 weeks pregnant. So not all of them work

Actually, false positives do exist, they are cause by chemical pregnancies, evaporation lines, misuse of test, medications or even a detergent in the cup you use for dipping the test in.

As for clearblue digitals, I've never been a fan to be honest, for me they are just a gimmick and the clear blue normal actually reads at a lower level than the normal clear blue pee sticks.

If no sign of period in a few days I'd go get another test, but get a cheaper one, no point splashing out that much just for the sake of a screen. In fact (I can't remember the figures off the top of my head) but I'm sure the ones in poundland test at like 30mIU which will be plenty.

I'd also go down the test first thing in the morning route. Mine showed a negative in the evening and a positive in the morning.
