    well this sucks!!

I tried it and what did I get??

    Zip :(

I had a long conversation with multiroom being brought in to the conversation - not sure how that got in there - I don't even want sky in more than one room!!!

All I ended up with was a customer care address and the advice that if I wasn't happy, I should write in a complaint. Guess what, in the immortal words of Sandy Shaw, "these fingers are made for typing!!"

lets see if that method works eh!?
  • An addition to mspigs comments above, i just phoned sky to try and <cough> 'blag' a free sky+ box. I didn't actually go through to the cancellations dept because I wanted to see what they offered me if i went with sky+, broadband and the phone package - which was basically bu**er all (pardon my french). After being cut off 3 times ("technical problems" - yeah right) and the red mist coming down, I threatened to cancel with the sky+ sales guy. He told me that the cancellation dept might offer me free sky+, depending on what offer they had today! Apparently, they dangle different carrotts on different days, could be 6 months free, sky+ box, or absolutely nothing. So be prepared!

Now i'm in a right quandry - the wife will kill me if i actually cancel

might try it while she's at work...... :D there's always the 30 day get out clause
  • Seems to be a pattern forming! I phoned after work with the line that I was trying to cut back on costs and so was getting a Freeview recorder box. Ahem.

I was offered £30 credit which I politely declined, and then was asked if I'd like Broadband which I declined as my employer pays for it. Before I knew it, the cancellation had gone through and we bid our farewells.....! That wasn't the plan?!

Sounds like stubarker's comments would be the reality. Next plan is to phone back and see what my signing up to the Broadband and Phone deal will do to assist. It something I've been thinking about for a while, so hope will now provide some leaverage. He says, sounding mildly desperate now :-(

You won't be able to threaten to cancel, well you could, but you would have to pay for the 9 months like you said. Would end up being rather pointless!
  • update to my situation, got it for £49, went through to cancellations and played my face about the poor service i'd received when i was trying to upgrade to sky+ earlier this evening (the cut offs, the being passed from adviser to adviser, etc etc), the lady on the other end was very friendly, apologised profusely, and agreed to let us have the box for £49, wasn't in the mood to push my luck and go for free though :D

Isn't it funny how helpful customer services become when you threaten to cancel.

really glad i searched MSE for sky+ savings now :j

Got free Sky+ box and install after asking to cancel because they were charging £65 for an engineer to fix our broken Sky+ box! As we already have Sky+ sub we didn't have to sign up to another long contract.

Original offer was half price call out charge or £49 for new box...refused both and was offered it for free :D
  • Hey everyone
I got my Husband to ring sky today to ask about sky+ we were offered it for £99...

20 mins later, having done a search and found this thread, we called up the cancellations department and were offered it for free and with free multi room too! They are coming on Tuesday, sounds like their gonna be busy on Tuesday everyones getting it done! :D

Thanks OP, without this thread, i would've paid £99

the people who are getting this for free - how much subscription are you already paying - just to compare?

i'm currently out of my 12m contract and not paying anything - will i need to re-subscribe and will they tie me into another 12m?
