for viewing distances...I think you could go for a 50" (more like the movies)
Dont be scared of the big size TVs you soon get used to them and wish you had gone bigger..:D
My living room is just over 6 meters by just under 6 meters & I think a 42 inch is way big enough.
Don't know if DH would agree, but I don't want living room to look like the Odeon.0 -
what model is yours?

Its still quite expensive, loads of other brands are falling down in price.
I liked the Phillips ambilights, but hubby said you can't compare a Phillips to a Pioneer:rolleyes:
It looked nice on the wall in the shop;)
Edited to say......I'm sure we had a £100 off code or reserve online & collect from shop for £100 cheaper.
To be honest I expected it to be a good bit less now.0 -

Hi its been done lots of times just search the forums for "plasma"
Go to WHS & read the mags, "What TV" for an idea or too.
For 42"+ it really is a plasma. Goolge the terms LCD and Plasma and see these next two links plasma LCD
Better makes are Pioneer and Panasonic. May I suggest that conduct a proper "listening" to the sound, it comes with the TV and turn up the volume, most are bad in this manner. You don't just get a "tele". there is a whole new viewing experence for you to discover, so get a few decent brochures and find out what else a TV can do for you. Then have it wall mounted, a good unit is about £250, because it has to carry the substantial weight and rotate and swivel. Do mount on a plaster board wall, but solid brick (look at the ones mounted in pubs and clubs). A must have is a good out door aerial. One last point here is never lay it on its side it must be delivered and transported in an upright manner. Look for 5 years g'tee.
1080p is standard now, but its not transmitted by the BBC. SKY have a HD service but I think thats 1080i and is pay monthly for a limit output. You will need a blueray dvd player and HD DVD for best quality.
Connection is by HDMI leads and there is no such thing as a digital cable. Get cables costing around £10. The £50+ ones are snake oil. HTH
Mines Panansonic a 42" Plasma0 -
its a minefield lol
only downside to getting a big tv is not being able to use my tv stand i have got at the moment as i love it!! nice wood one0 -

Avoid HD DVD though seeing as it's dead."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

We have a plasma, 42 inch. Its loooovely ... it cost just under 1500.
But one thing. Its abit silly to warn you about but i will. Becareful when you clean your television. We cleaned ours and have not got marks from where we cleaned it. And it wont go.
And a friend of mine her mother bought a proper tv cleaner from comet or currys. Not sure which. And that also left a mark. You cant tell when the tv is on, but you can when its off.
Hope you get the one which is right for youxxx
