At the risk of going over old ground, can someone tell me *why* it is a problem that if the comps ending list is posted a few hours early? I have looked through this thread and found discussion about the lists but nothing specific about it but katec has just got a slating for doing so. It leaves me feeling a bit

Also, I came back on yesterday and there were a load of 5/8, 6/8 and 7/8 comps still on the board, some of them marked as game over. Should we be reporting these to get them moved or will the bgs pick them up eventually?

I feel really sad the way this is going tonight - Poor katec asked here first before she posted the 10th comps ending ...
Some very valid comments have been made to keep it going the way it was, cant we just forget all this and go back to the lovely friendly, happy, helpful site it used to be???

I may be mistaken, but I thought the Comps Ending threads were only to be posted the day before or the morning of? so it should just be the one for the 9th that is out now, (tomorrow being the end date of the 9th). So we didn't end up with more than one at a time?

I could be wrong though & I've been having a hunt around to find diva's post with the rules to be followed to allow these Comps Ending threads to continue. It doesn't look as if the newer members are aware there even are rules & the members who were around at the time of the er, Great Debate don't seem to remember them either?

Can anyone bamboozle the forum search into finding it please? Would be clearer then for everyone :)

*going to lay down with a cold flannel on her face to try to ease the confusion* :D
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out

I'm going out in half an hour or so, is it too early to post comps ending 10th August now? I'll check and add any more early in the morning

I have only just seen this thread, the comp ending threads shouldn't be posted before 8pm but ideally in the morning please. Hopefully you'll have seen my post on the comp ending 10th to understand a bit more why.

Thanks for the list, it is appricated by many & I know how hard they are to put together. I am not slating you, I hope you realise that, but if I don't politely mention what the 'rules' were the same mistakes are likely to be made again.

    URGENT PLEASE READ!!!

right after much discussion between all the board guides we have a proposal to make to everyone and think that we have come up with a great compromise that will suit everyone.

please let us know what you think of the idea.

we will have one comps closing xx date thread allowed this will be posted a day before so for eg. if one was posted today it would be for tomorrows date and so on.

this will be made a sticky daily by which ever board guides spots it first and then moved to game over at the end of the day.

Who posts the thread will be up to users, if it is duplicated then they will be merged in together so there is always only one thread per day.

Please dont fight over who does which day!! you can sort it out amongst yourselves in the comps discussion thread.

we will start this from tomorrow if people like this idea so if someone wants to complie a list for all comps ending 02/03 then that will be made a sticky tomorrow morning.

Please dont post the actual thread until the morning on the day it will be made a sticky. so tomorrows thread will be for comps ending 02/03 but dont post it until first thing tomorrow morning.

I am sure we will all soon get used to this new system!!

So if I'm reading that right the ending threads should only be posted the day before the date that is ending. I thought it was gradually creeping forwards as a few times I have spotted more than 1 of the things kicking around.

Perhaps to avoid this the rules need to be posted at the top of each comp ending thread so the member doing the next day's list is aware of what they should/shouldn't be doing?

I really don't want to end up back in the absolute chaos that these lists caused back then!

I have posted on today's thread here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=13178591&postcount=32

2 people have posted after it (at time of posting this) but I think a LOT more have entered comps through that thread whom I think my points refer to. Is it just me that thinks that?

    EDIT

P.S I totally agree with what you have said VG, it was uttter chaos back then but looks like it's going the same way now sadly.

I have to admit that I am a great fan of the 'comps ending' list, being a working Mum with limited free time it's a fantastic help to me so I would be gutted to see the thread pulled, like a few others on here I don't contribute that much but I do always thank the OP's and post helpful comments re comps if I can. I've never seen more than 2 days worth of 'comps ending' lists posted but I have only been on here a few months. I for one hope the thread stays.

I've been keeping track of all the comments both here and in the various threads and although I do use the ending lists I don't rely on them. They're a 'checking' system but I wouldn't have a problem if they went, I've found I only miss one or two from my normal comping time. When I went on holiday in May I missed quite a lot that finished, but that was fine, if I didn't enter it wasn't the end of the world. I missed a comp last week I would have loved to win, only because I didn't come back on after 9pm and check to see if any were a 'one day' comp and I missed it! Ce la vie!

I do remember the lists caused a lot of problems when they started and lately I've read comments on the list threads that I haven't liked about some missing etc... and giving the OP a hard time.
I think comping should be a 'hobby' not a 'job'. The threads, IMHO, aren't in the spirit of comping. Just my opinion though and I understand a lot of people like them. Some probably even rely on them - and IMO again - that's wrong.
The OP's compile the lists out of the goodness of their hearts and that's wonderful but they do get a lot of hassle for doing things wrong sometimes and that's rude.
I went through the board myself, last page to front, and checked every comp I was interested in to see if I'd entered, that was enough for me to do and didn't actually take that long. If I can do it then others can. An hour in the evening would be enough and it was something I had to do when I joined if I didn't want to miss any. It meant, due to the time I had, that I entered ones I really wanted not just for the sake of it because they were handed to me on a plate in the form of a list.
Apoligies for my comments but that's my feeling.
    Bygones.
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
    I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T

Terribly sorry for being the only board guide on at the moment, I can't do everything and make the board nice and shiney 24hrs a day, I have had a tough enough job as it is this week with merging, posting and keeping up with discussions

All game overs are done now up until today, sorry for not coming up to standards.

Just to remind you that I am away for a week from tomorrow, so I will not be doing merge requests, they need to go to Heather or Dalkirst as divadee is away still next week.
