I'd love to go back to how it was on here before the lists started, everyone was relaxed and friendly but most of all helpful. There didn't seem to be any of the current sniping in here and it was a lovely place for me when I was new to get used to how comping worked. I'm not totally blaming the comps ending threads but they are where it seems most concentrated and most vicious. They've made me lazy with comping as I know I can always use them to catch up and I'd much rather go back to finding and entering the comps page by page so thats what I'm doing starting today, here goes for a marathon in checking all the comps through to see which I still want to enterJust become FTBs & Aiming to be mortgage free by 2034
Thank you to all who post on the comps/freebies forums you've helped us save our deposit :money:0 -
peej, I like your thinking
I can't sleep hence being on here at an ungodly hour and I was thinking of running a poll to see what the latest view on the comps ending thread is...
BUT
I'd like to make it an unanonymous one, where people can see who has voted, I think it would be interesting to see what the take up of people is for and against it (ie oldies or newbies) cos I have a funny feeling most of the people that will want it to stay will be the newer ones (sorry peeps, but that is my opinion)
I'm actually also wondering how many people have come and "joined" the board since these lists have been up and running as it is a quick and easy/lazy :rotfl: of entering the comps
Thoughts please you guys
Being an inbetweenie, neither a oldie (only in years :rotfl: ) or a newbie, I totally agree with all you say kipper, and would be quite happy to have people know the way I voted on this one. The comps ending list has just made it all too easy.........just my twopenneth! Our Granddaughter, Caitlin Freya is now 7 years old, growing up to be a lovely young lady and our Grandson, Findlay Ewan is 3 years old and still a lovable bundle of mischief
one of each, how perfect

I was against the comps ending list when it started, and feel the same now. I must miss lots of comps as I have quite a lot of days when I'm not well enough to come on the board, and don't always catch up to where I was (that's why I'm often guilty of 'bumping' older threads - but always with a purpose, new link, changed answer etc)
For me, comping is a fun hobby, I enjoy the chatting, and the joking with all the great people I've 'met' on this forum, and if I win anything it's a bonus. I really don't see where the pleasure or fun is in feeling you *must* work through a list every single day, knowing if you miss a couple of days then they're closed and you've missed out.
I think that since Martin featured comping on his show at the beginning of the year there have been a lot of people who view this solely as a way to make money. They see working through the list every day as a chore, rather than a pleasure, and aren't interested in contributing in any way, and I think that the people who do the lists (with good intentions) are handing it to them on a plate.
I realise that if the lists were to go then people would miss them at first, but if people value the ease of having them all together over the friendliness of this forum, then there are other places they can comp where they'd find details of comps ending. If they prefer the friendliness of this forum, then they would need to adapt the way they comp.
I've seen a lot of posts in the I won forum along the lines of 'this is the first time I've posted but I've won all this in the last month......thanks to the posters and especially the people who do the comps ending lists'
I don't begrudge anybody any of their wins, but I would like this forum to be a friendly place where everyone contributes (even if it's only popping in the Inn for a chat, or pointing out a wrong link or a comp that closed early)
If there is a poll, I agree it should be open. Perhaps along the lines of the 'what did we win' thread at the end of the last year with for & against, & each person posts their vote and updates the running total. This isn't about newbies for me, but about contributors. I would be interested in seeing if those who mostly use the comps ending lists are people I 'know' or not.

Looks like we need it now ( snigger snigger )
I thought you had the cunning plan Baldrick :think:0 -

I agree with you tttJay. I must admit, I had a week away last month and missed a whole load of comps, so I've been quickly checking the comps ending lists for any I may have missed, even though I've already waded through the comps (think I've had too much time on my hands), but generally, if I've missed a comp, then I've missed it. There's always another around the corner. Comping should be fun, but lately with the comps ending lists goings-on it hasn't been that way. As others have already said, other sites have daily lists..........do we need them too.
I don't do babies, children's, students or wedding comps. I have no need for them and would rather somebody that does want the prizes from them to win. Same goes for any other comp prizes I wouldn't use/need.:beer:Thank you to all posters:beer:

If we did a poll I think the people wanting to get rid would be very out numbered to be honest. Look at the amount of registered users that use comps ending, and I wonder how many unregistered users would actually join up just to vote in the poll
Its a tricky situation really... I don't see any harm in them just been stopped for 2 weeks to see how it goes, doesn't mean it will be permenant, just a trial for EVERYONES benefit.
not having the lists doesn't mean you have to spend more time on here, all you have to do is organise threads by start time and work from where you left off each time, but even that seems like too much hard work for people... I enter more comps now than I did when I used comps ending lists.
Not trying to start an arguement, I just think we should get a chance to try the board without the lists, I really love this board and am more bothered about it been a fab board than having something which causes conflict.
I will zip shut now I promise:whistle:
Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:

Morning all - just thought I'd put in my own comments in the comps ending lists.
To be honest I use them A LOT...When I'm on the boards and an interesting comp pops up on the 'new posts' then I'll enter it from there. But I have to admit I do rely heavily on the comps ending threads. Maybe I'm lazy?!?!!?!?
However, I do understand the frustration over newbies who maybe haven't contributed, but then win alot of loot.
To be honest if the ending threads are removed I'll use the main thread more often. I also agree if you miss something you miss something. And I don't think I'll ever be hardcore enough to join another comping forum to use their ending now lists. LOL
So I guess I'm saying I don't have strong feelings either way...but do appreciate those who pull all of the lists together. xxxSave me from spending...

I agree. I don't think that a poll would be useful. I think that if there is a strong feeling that the lists are causing problems then the board guides and above need to discuss this and come to a decision.0
