I have recieved two letters from them over my 3 mobile bill, the amount is outstanding, but i have had experience of them before and will get in contact with them to sort it out in a couple of weeks. If you leave it for long enough, rather than go to court or turn up on your step, they will pass it onto a firm of solicitors who are a lot easier and more plesant to deal with.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

Surely if you don't owe the money you can just return letters marked 'see you in court'. Westcott would have to pay to take you to court as it is the court who issues a ccj if the case against you is proved. From what you are saying they would not be able to prove you owe this money. Also they could not remove any goods without a bailiff's warrant (in England) which they couldnt get if they hadnt already proved to the court that you owed the money. Not much comfort I know if you are worried about harrassment. I would try contacting the CAB to see if they kept a record of your enquiry. These days most advice agencies keep records for up to 6 years in storage for data protection. May not be the same everywhere but worth a try. Good luck.

i may be wrong here, but i believe that in scotland they can't seize any goods, that's just for england (and possibly wales)

  • I had a bill from Wescott addressed to 'the occupier'

It was for a £12.34 outstanding debt for an electricity company, left by a previous tenant of one of my properties.

I rang Westcott and they wouldn't give me details of the bill citing the 'data protection act'.

I gave them my address and they sent me a letter requesting the tenants new address.

I replied that I couln't give it to them because under the 'data protection act' (under which I am registered) I was not able to divulge private data to third part agencies.

That was the last I heard of the bill !
  • is there an email address 4 westcot credit services? as they have defaulted me 4 a mobile fone bill which is on my credit file and it is paid now and i urgently need 2 get it removed. cheers guys
  • If you still need the address Jamie, I got this from a site called Wescotcreditsucks.com. Neilconway@wescot.co.uk. Apparently this guy was really helpful. Strangely, whenever I try to get back to the wescot sucks site, I am redirected to an Equifax related page.....
  • I had a bill from Wescot for nearly £4000. I say I had a bill, it was actually addressed to someone who has never lived at the property. We have lived there for 10 years. I opened the bill cos I thought it was very odd getting mail for someone I didn't know like that. Got onto Wescot immediately, Apparently the person owing the money has the same first name and DOB as me, but completely different surname. I asked Wescot where they got my details from as this was the first I'd heard of this debt, which has apparently been outstanding for about FOUR YEARS!!!!!!!!!! They said as I wasn't the account holder they couldn't tell me, however I spotted tiny print which said Acting on behalf of Thames Credit. Got thames details through the web and got onto them. They were pleasant but not helpful. Said it was obviously 'a wrong trace' and they had washed their hands of the debt which was some years old. It is for an MBNA credit card. I have never had an MBNA card, though I regularly get post from them offering me one!

Wescot said I won't hear from them again and the phone call is sufficient 'at this stage'. If I'm not going to hear from them again, what other stage could there possibly be???????

Took advice from CAB and spoke to the police. CAB have put me in touch with office of fair trading and produced a social policy report on Wescot, to help others who are harrassed by them. They also suggested I get in touch with MBNA, so they can tell Wescot they've got the wrong address/person. In addition, I can send copies of documents to Wescot showing that I'm not the person. HOWEVER!! The police said, DON'T send them anything. It isn't your name on the letter, you've told them, end of story. If they are unscrupulous, they may amend their records to match your details!!!! Now don't know what to do, can anyone offer any advice?

This is what one supposed employee of Wescot thinks of his "customers" (taken from blagger.com) :-

"I have worked for Wescot now for 2 and a half years and I have not heard so much rubbish in my life. First of all, you all complain about the 0870 numbers that are used. You call these numbers when you want to apply to get the money then you default on the paymennts, but complain when you are asked to call these to negotiate debt repayment.
Do you think that the major blue chip organisations would use Wescot to collect their debt if we were a cowboy outfit? NO!!! We are regularly monitered on our calls and are also audited on our account work. Most importantly we are also assessed by our clients on many different areas.
So when you want to complain about us, just remember that we are the good, credit paying and credit worthy citizens and you are a bunvh of useless a***holes!!!!!!"

Note the wonderful standard of English and grammar!
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

We've got dealings with them now. We were having a bad couple of months so we rang sky and told them, they were really nice and all that and disconnected our service. We had a month outstanding and we said we'd be able to pay it in a month which they said was fine.
We rang them to pay it and they said no we can't pay them now..it's been passed on (could've told us first!)!
So we rang this westcot and paid over the phone..waited they said yes fine it's gone through you should be reconnected in 24 hours. Nope no reconnection..we call sky..they say we still haven't paid as do westcot yet they said at the time we had. So they say it was refused..so we are sihtting ourselves thinking we have no money! Called the bank and they said all was fine, westcot or sky had not tried to take money at all and they'd not refused any transaction.
When we contact westcott about this they refuse to give their name or extension so we call talk to the same person again and they are very rude...oh and now sky say it's fine to pay them directly. What's that all about!
