No. The solicitor will take up to 2 weeks to reply. Write to the sols and ask them to f--- off politely and say you are dealing with wescot's sol.0

Read your post and was just wondering why write to their solicitor, if they are supposedly crook's then wouldn't their solicitor be one too? Just an observation0

Westcot are a bunch of crooks, and have somehow illegally got hold of your ebay delivery/ registration addresses, and this is where they now chase. If there are enough people I would be happy to launch a law suit against them, challenging how they have got their information. They portray themselves as being a clean high minded money collecting company, however they are clearly happy to breach the law and the privacy and confidence of the public. They are hyprocrites and it is about time the people stood up to law breaking companies such as these. If this can be proved, they have no leg to stand on, they are obtaining information through illegal means. Please post if you feel the same has happened and want to get behind this suit.0

regardless of whether their solicitor is a crook, if they are obtaining people's addresses by breaching the data protection act, then there is not much even a crooked solicitor could do.0

My wife used to work for Wescot Credit Services and they are not just crappy with their "customers". They treat the staff like crap as well.
Technically, by law, they have to keep their records "accurate and up to date" to not breach the data protection act. Therefore if you send back mail marked "not known at this address" they should respond by deleting this address from the file. In reality they won't.
I received a letter from them a while ago (after my wife had left) and I told them the person they were after had never lived at the property. I told them that they had to update their records and although it took them a while they did it in the end. The collection office is in Hull but the trace department is in Scotland somewhere. They have accounts for SKY TV, Barclays, NTL and a shed load more. Once they are chasing you it's because (usually) they have bought the debt from the company involved which is why they don't want to follow the paper trail back through the original company. Sometimes it has been passed on 5 or 6 times before they get it which may account for some of the long delays in the trace department finding you. Sometimes they send out letters to you for family members in the hope that you will get on at them to pay their debts. They should not do this but they don't seem to care.
Sometimes they will send you a letter that requires a signature and if you sign it it is proof of occupancy so be careful what you sign for. You can always refuse it.
It may be worth registering with the The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) if they are sending letters to anyone other than the addressee as they could be liable to a £5,000 fine. (i think). It's unlikely that this will happen but if you tell them directly that you are registered with The Mailing Preference Service and that you will submit an official complaint about them it may encourage them to stop harassing you.
By the way, a letter from their "solicitor" is not from their solicitor at all. I'm quite sure it's illegal to represent yourself as a solicitor when you're not but again I don't think they care much.
Hope this helps0 -

I nearly had a problem with NTL when I last moved in February 2003. I had digital TV and phone from them and they kept the phone going after I'd moved out. Eventually, after numerous messages, they sorted it out.
They (NTL) are so incompetent that I still have their set-top box from the digital TV (not sure whether I actually own it or whether they do).
If you have a letter, I would send a copy of it to them. If they still persist then it becomes a police matter.0 -
Many years ago i defaulted on a payment and westcot brought the debt so had my details on record. Since then i have not only cleared the debt but moved on in life and remarried.
Well, got a call this morning from an 0845 number that went like this....
Caller: Is that Mrs ***** (my previous name)
Me: No one lives here by that name.
Caller: Is your address ********** (which it was)
Me: I won't declare that information.
Caller: Well i know it is anyway so it doesn't matter. Does a Miss *.****** live at ********* (2 doors away from me)
Me: I won't provide information to them.
Caller: Why not?
Me: Because i have no idea who you are.
Caller: I'm from a debt collection company called Westcot
Me: Well i have no idea and even if i did i would never provide information to someone over the phone and its a very underhand way of getting information about people.
With that the caller put the phone down on me. I genuinely don't know who lives at that address but i am in shock that a company that had my details from about 6 years ago use it to hunt another debtor down. And i thought that after paying off my debt that would be the end of it!!!0 -
I have just had a letter from Wescot asking me to pay £153.90 for an outstanding debt owed to television x.
I have never heard of these so looked it up and it appears to be an adult channel on satellite which I have never used so don't know where they got my details from.
I seem to be inundated lately with letters from people chasing money for companies I know nothing about. what is going on???0 -
Well perhaps you might want to consider that someone is stealing your identity then defaulting & leaving you to pick up the pieces? If you are getting inundated with demands for money you know nothing about then you should be making sure your identity has not been falsely used.0

I have Sky at home and have never had any trouble. I think it may be something to do with previous tenants as we have had all sorts of letters which we have sent back as "Not known at this address".
Not keen to call, any suggestions/thoughts much appreciated!
