  • to cut a very very long story shoert:

I had taken out a co-op Career Development Loan in 2006 for an IT course. I had also received 2k from my parents toward this. During the course the Company went into liquidation taking mine and other students money with it. Myself and others one day turned up to the center and finding the doors shut with no phone call or email to us. About a year after this i was a witness to another student to a court hearing. The other student won the case but he went his own way and didnt keep in touch with me after that so i never got to take it to court myself. He had emailed me after that though to say he never got the money from the owners though. I have no idea what happened since early 2008 about the case or about the loan. lo and behold i get a letter today demanding repayment or they will persue in court or take posessions.

I recall at the hearing the judge told us we wouldnt have to pay the loans as our contract had been terminated by the training company not by us. As well as that the CDL is a governement scheme anyway.

    Please can you help.

the ex training !!!!!!! company was called: Connectivity (aka trans media ltd)

    very worried now
  • To deal with Wescot Credit Services is very simple. make no effort to contact them! They are just a bunch of no-hoper renegades. Quite how

  • I am a landlord and I received a letter addressed to a previous tenant at my rental property. I know he wasn't very good at managing his money so I googled the return address and it was Wescot.

Despite the advice above, I phoned Wescot, who do have a website with a Contact Us page. Just look up wescotcreditservices. I got through straight away and spoke to a very polite lady. I wasn't asked for my name or contact details (I phoned from work so my phone number wouldn't show up).

I was asked if I had a forwarding address for the previous tenant, which I provided. I asked what I should do with the letter, and she said to ignore it and that I shouldn't receive any more.

Overall my experience was positive, and being careful not to provide my details, I had no problem ringing them to tell them that a previous tenant has moved on. I will however have to wait and see if the letters stop. I feel much more comfortable taking this approach than just ignoring the letters and binning them, otherwise the worry is always at the back of your mind.

Took three months for the ones meant for the person next door (who had given my address rather than her own) to stop coming.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • I am not sure if i am posting this in the right place but when I searched Westcot this thread came up.

I have just got home to find my son quite agitated. He suffered a hit and run at the weekend so was home from work . He was actually in the bath when the dog started barking so he thought there must be someone at the door. He decided to drag himself out of the bath and downstairs would be too difficult. They were still there sometime later so he thought it must be an energency. He was greated by 2 big gorrillas asking him if he was mr xx he said he wasn't and he didn't know him. They would not take no for an answer and were very intimidating they finally left stating they will come back:eek:

I recognised Mr x name as being a casual friend of my daughters who used to live in the same town but moved away a couple of years ago. He did stay with us for a couple of nights earlier this year.

I immediately thought I would phone them up as do not want them back on my doorstep. The thing is they said they haven't sent anyone out. My son described the ID badge to the woman but she insisted it wasn't them.

Whats going on? Anyone any ideas. Thanks
  • Hi guys.

I am writing here because unfortunately I had something in common with you. Wescot Credit Services Ltd.

First of all I'm not British, came here 3years ago. Living under my current address from 2 and half.

But this case is not even about me but my partner.

She never had any incomes or bills to pay for her name at all.
I was in charge for all this. But today She received the letter from this company just to confirm that this person still living here. And as letter saying
if we do not hear from you by 29/11/2010 we will assume the contact information we hold is correct.

I am not even sure this is legal procedure in this country to assume something base on inaction!

I am pretty sure she has nothing to do with any institution in UK except council tax which is being paid by my anyway as well.

There is only one more thing in this that I can see the connection.
My partner was looking for job and couple of days ago had an appointment in some random company. This is only one time she provided all of details included address and here full name.

I don't know, this is only my assumption but it looks like some random person can provide your details to put you under dept? Is it really possible that whoever has all needed details can do this without checking the case? I am trying to prevent this situation before I need to deal with some rude guys. What do you think will be the best in this case?

The fact Wescot sent "make-sure-you-are-there" letter showing me they trying to treat this as earlier notice letter if they had issue with that before. It's amazing that people complains from 2004 and this kind of institution still is functioning.

Please drop an post if you can help me in this situation. Is it actually better to ignore them or phone them up? Making me worry that I don't even know what their assumption is trying provide to.

Try not to fret, they will try all sorts of different techniques (whether legal or not) to find the debtor. You are under NO legal obligation to do anything, be that it is not YOU they are chasing. They can knock or phone you as much as they like, you can prove who you are quite easily, but you are not legally bound to do so.

They cannot enter your property without a court judgement, and this will be impossible for them to attain without firstly PROVING to a court that you are the debtor AND that the debtor currently dwells in your property.

  • Not sure if i'm happy or sad that i've read this thread!

I have had letters throught the door for a previous tennant in the property i am renting from these cowboys.

I have told them before the person they are looking for is not here and has moved on and got told i would get no more correspondance...who were they kidding another two letters arrived this morning...should I open them and see what they saying should i just pop them back in post box return to sender addressee gone away? (which is what i was gonna do).

Why can't these people take the hint and just do their jobs properly!

I would not bother opening them, why stress yourself out n ruin your Christmas for somebody else. Write on them clearly "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS - ANYMORE POST SENT HERE WILL BE BINNED" and stick to the promise.

  • I'm one of the handful who doesn't (so far!) have any criticism of them. Moved house 6 months ago, totally forgot I owed Sky TV money (£110 roughly). Wescot wrote to me, asking me to contact them. Waited 3 minutes for an agent on the phone, who explained who I owed money to. I've set up two DD payments for the money owed (which I don't dispute) starting in the middle of next month. Fingers crossed, should be fine. The chap did try nagging me a little to pay a tenner now, but I declined that offer twice and he left it alone, moving on to set up the DD I offered (the two payments over two months). Apparently, another letter will be in the post confirming the arrangement. Long as they don't mess me around, I won't mess them around.

Seemed very polite and very helpful. I know that isn't the case with the majority of people on this thread, but thought it only fair to mention this on here (I googled them while I was on hold, hence landing here).

If anything changes, then I'll be straight back on here to shout about it, shortly after cancelling any arrangements and telling them to swivel for their money, as I would with any firm who messes me around, but so far so good, seem legit. Even read out the Direct Debit Guarantee to me...:rotfl:
