hand washing bras- strictly neccessary?

Options
just a quick question - if my bra says handwash only, is it strictly neccessary or would putting it in a lingerie bag (or old pillowcase) make much difference? or would it be better if i put the w/m on slow spin?
i've always just chucked them in the w/m with everything else :o and not had any problems really, aside from within a month or two the underwires pop out (and being a DD, my bras are not cheap!) - could using the w/m be the problem?

i'm a busy mum, who also works and studies so i never really have the oppurtunity to hand wash....

Help please :o

i am just a chuck em with everything type person... but be warned about the padded bras.... my less endowed housmate was mortified when the man sent to mend the washing machine (wouldn't drain) was blocked with the padding of one of her bras!!

I always machine wash mine, but the wires have never come out. Saying that, i use a larger capacity machine and the spin is a bit slower than a domestic one.
As for the time aspect, if you were to keep a small bottle of handwash soap, stergene or woolite, in the bathroom, then when you bathe or shower, the bra could soak in the basin and a quick rinse and it's done.

I get away with bog-standard M&S cheapies most of the time, so I'm not too bothered if they drop to bits after a while, but any of my more extravagant lacy ones get a quick rinse through in the basin.

  • I just chuck em in and they seem to survive just fine. I'm a 32 G so normally mine are a fortune , but I have found ebay to be a great source of cheap attractive bras.

I've never handwashed a bra, they just get bunged in with the wash with everything else.

Have to admit to machine washing most of my bras - but when I've bought some new ones (or an expensive one), I hand wash them for quite a while. The ones with wires are a nuisance and it's best to put those inside a pillowcase to stop any loose wires getting into the innerds of your machine!
  • I stick mine on hand wash cycle. Job done :D

Never handwashed a bra in my life.

The asda/george underwire bras are great - they do the larger cup sizes and start at around £5

Life is too short. Wouldn't get mine clean enough either. They get thrown in the washer, but never tumble dried.

Washing machine in a bra bag I got from kleeneze which stops my fear of a wire escaping in the machine.

    Hiya,

im an FF so for how much my bras cost me i wouldnt dream of machine washing them as such, i just pop them onto a hand wash cycle, i dont put pabric cionditioner in either as its can rot the high lycra content, i actually heard that you shouldnt wash any delicate undies with softener ever, i have always followed this and they last me ages!
