Friend got slight problem with her cross stitch. The pattern she has been doing, the material supplied is going to leave her with 3 inches spare at top and only half an inch at bottom (pattern should fit all on material). Don't know if she started at wrong place – too far down I guess (didn't start in middle started at top left corner). Should she continue to stitch or scrap it and start again? Thanks for your help.

    Hi all,

Everyone's current/future projects are making me drool and want to spend lots of money on kits/charts!

Anyway I've got quick question - I've already posted this on the UFO thread. I've been given a Janelyn chart minus the threads and was wondering if they use DMC or Anchor. I do have a massive stash of DMC threads, so it would be really handy if they do.

I think your friend should continue. If the pattern is going to fit, after she's finished she could frame it using a mount to cover the shorfall, IFYSWIM!

Thanks for letting me know about the handfasting. Im Scottish and have lived in Scotland all my life, but I hadnt heard of that ceremony. It sounds really lovely and personal and Im all for keeping traditions alive!
My OH and I will be getting married (eventually) so I will keep that in mind.

    Have a great day !

    Hi Book addict

Im wondering if Jannelyn kits are like dimensions kits -and use their own threads?
If they are DMC/anchor etc it should say so on the list of threads... if not then they must be using their own...which is a pain in the bum -I have several dimesions kits -and it means you can't let someone else do the chart as easily as there won't be enough threads left...

Good point MrsMcawber. The chart does have some numbers on it which match DMC thread numbers. I'll give it a try with DMC threads. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

I've had a look at some other charts I've been given and it does state that they use DMC threads!

I have received 3 out of the 4 kits I won on e-bay so have just checked them over to make sure everything is included.
The Noah's Ark material is evenweave! I have never stitched on it before and now I have seen it in the flesh (so to speak) its quite different from aida which is all I have ever stitched on.
I'll give it a go though and change to aida only if I really can't get on with the evenweave.

Also another new thing for me in the Noah's Ark kit and the pixie/fairy kit is coloured charts. I have only ever used black and white charts (which I photocopy and colour in as I go) but the NA has coloured symbols and the pixie/fairy chart is actually blocks of colour like it has been coloured in.
Must admit at first glance they look much easier to follow than just a black and white chart.

Evenweave is actually much easier to work on than it looks, as long as you remember to go across 2 holes instead of one. I prefer evenweave if a lot of the background fabric is going to be visible.

As for coloured charts - imo they are SO much easier to follow. Probably why the magazines print them all in colour these days lol.

    Hi everyone :hello: :hello: :hello:

I'm looking for suggestions for a cross stitch piece to give to my nan and grandad for christmas, my nan taught me to cross stich when I was about 10 and use to get me to handmake my christmas cards... but as I grew up and discovered boys and clinton cards the handmade cards went out of the window, now I'd really like to do something special for them as my nan had her hip replaced this year at the same time that my grandad was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and I thought that a cross stitch would be ideal as it was something that she taught me to do. The only problem is that I'm at a complete loss of what to do - I was thinking about a family tree type thing but my family is plagued with divorce and so many kids with different parents (thanks dad!!) but i'd like to do something like that, if someone has any suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

What about stitching a special photo for her? It would have to be a small one for this christmas though I guess.

Or if you are set on the family tree idea, you could make one just with her, your grandad and the names of their children and grandchildren on it.(ignore any divorced people, keep it simple, blood relatives only )

Thanks so much for that tip!! :T

I didn't know that about going across 2 holes instead of one. Though now I have read the instructions it does say so but I would never have read them :o
I was going to treat it like aida, up one hole and down the immediate next.....then I would have wondered if it was meant to end up tiny :rotfl:

    Thanks again! :A

Hi guys, i would love to join this thread, i have been lurking on the UFO thread and enjoy seeing you guys finish them. I used to cross stitch alot and really enjoyed it until i discovered a pc and the internet hehe then i just kinda stopped but you all have got me inspired. I went searching for a lion kit, my OH likes them so thought it would be nice to do, i took the plunge and bought this kit http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/itemdetail.pl?item=K3866 only i got it really cheap on ebay (£10.49 delivered) and fear it's a chinese import, but as long as it looks the same who cares, will let you know when it arrives. This is the biggest project i have ever done, i've completed a couple of A4 sized ones so have no clue how long this will take me, it may become a UFO at some point ;) Will update when the kit arrives, Nicola.
