Petrol Prices !!! Im sick of it....

You are nearly right its 52% tax and then 17.5%vat !!!!!!!!!!!
Whats needed is everyone to start boycotting just one of the Greedy petrol companies like Esso for example
If we all (or even just 50%) didnt buy from Esso they would be forced to drop their prices to increase cutomers coming through the pumps
So if you do drive just tell as many people as you can to not buy from Esso and watch the effect
So for the people like me(lazy git) it takes no effort at all, will work and make the fat cats in the petrol industry sit up and notice
It should be us who controls how much is reasonable to pay not the shareholders of petrol companies
Should be a law against it
This country is a laughing stock. USA are furious at paying around three dollars for a GALLON in some states. We wish.............
Don't know the answer, all I know is that I hate living here now. I work hard - for what? My bills are rising (my salary isn't). I can't ever see myself being in a position to retire.Genie

USA now have quite a few states at over $4 a US gallon. Over the last 10 years the price of a a gallon has tripled in the USA ..... its been a lot longer than 10 years that we ever petrol at 37p a litre!0 -
The recent increases are nothing to do with tax or the government. It's simply that demand is exceeding supply, so a higher price can be commanded. That's business folks...
Be sure of one thing. It's likely to get worse. Developing countries like China and India are drawing massive demands for fuel and it's going to increase.
If the government bow to presure the best you can hope for is they scrap the 2p increase due in October. I imagine a reduction is never going to happen.
When it hit £1 per litre, I converted to LPG and there is no way I will go back to diesel of Petrol as things stand. 46p for autogas against £1.12? I also now cycle 8 miles to work and back.
There's probably an alternative for many, but you might have to get out of your comfort zone because I don't believe stamping your feet will help you any with this one.0 -
A typical example of people whinging about the price of diesel and petrol, and doing nothing whatsoever about it:
There was a dude yesterday in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election who had decided to try and do something rather than just whinge, so stood for the "Cut Tax on Diesel and Petrol Party". He polled just over 100 votes, which means just 3 in every 1000 voters backed his cause. Even the Greens and Monster Raving lot got more votes, which says it all about the general apathy about doing something positive instead of having a good moan.
This would have been an opportunity for people to register a protest vote which was squandered.0 -
Geez, this thread has brought out some of the poorer conversation i've seen on MSE. Can't believe there are people like gardner1 boasting their low mpgs, even if it's not serious I don't think it's clever or funny.
It's also funny how people seem to remember problems associated with public transport but forget about the daily gridlocked traffic, the crashes and delays whenever there is snow or rain on the roads. Neither option is perfect.
How about following Martin's guide on saving on petrol? He estimates savings of ~20%. How many of the people moaning about petrol prices have taken these steps, how many of them are using a fuel efficient car? If it's that bad then take some positive action instead of whining. Fact is that sooner or later we need to reduce our reliance on oil whatever the prices.0 -

I've already changed to a more economic car. I use my car for work, no choice as it is miles away and in the sticks. I do my weekly shop en route from work to home on a Friday. I park my car up on that same evening and it doesn't move til Monday morning.
Now I am not doing any of that to save the planet or economise. Its because due to all the rising prices I can't afford to do anything else.Genie

30 mpg isnt that low,for most average sized petrol cars this will be normal fuel consumption driving around town....work permit granted!0 -
I feel sorry for the road hauliers and i think mcbrown should help them out with a discount or a special fuel card but for the rest of us it might make us think about using the car for pointless journeys post a letter when you could walk etc I'm as guilty as charged on this one0
