MyUserNamesTaken wrote: »Sorry, Tim, but that is not true. It doesn't matter about the size of the purchase, the funds will be reserved then taking upon despatch if the item is not in stock at the time of ordering. The way it normally wors is that the retailer verifies that the funds are available and puts a hold on the amount they require. When the item is despatched, the funds are requested from the bank. If the item is despatched immediately, both the authorisation and request to take the funds are done at the same time. However, if the item is not available immediately, the funds are held until the item is available for despatch. When the item is ready to ship, the retailer requests the funds and sends out the item. That is how it is supposed to work. There are retailers who take the funds even when they don't have stock, but these retailers are in the minority...and people don't particularly like using them (for obvious reasons).
Marshall Ward's T&Cs don't break the law. They have clauses in there relating to mistakes, which covers them.
I'm afraid you are wrong. I like many other retailers take card payments at the time of ordering. The money is then in my bank account within 3 working days. The reserving system is only for the three days until it has cleared into the retailers account. This is how Cardnet (part of Lloyds TSB) work, as do most other banks. There is no facility to allow the bank to reserve the money until despatch. So I don't know where you get your information from?0 -
The Chelsea Mattress has now gone altogether from the website - my order is still stating delivery on June12th though, no emails either2 Tickets to Blackrock Masters Tennis:j0

No, I am not wrong.
If you'd read what I'd said, I mentioned that some retailers take payment immediately regardless of whether they have stock available. These retailers aren't liked for this very reason. Most retailers, however, don't take payment until the item is available and ready for despatch. Sites such as Play.com, for example, work like this.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

Sorry, but it isn't possible to do it the way you suggest.
How can you say these retailers aren't liked when the customer wouldn't know any difference?
As I asked, where did you get your info from?0 -
I ordered one on the day OP posted and my order is showing as accepted and delivery expected 11/6/08.
I don't see why we won't be getting these as some people have actually rang and spoken to advisors at the catalogue so surely if the deal was wrong then the advisors would have said so at the time.
Oh well nothing ventured nothing gained but fingers crossed those who ordered receive theirs.0 -
Just wanna mention that some credit card company will show money as pending transaction and it will clear automatically after 3 days. in between if their fraud team find any suspecious trnxn (like big purchase just aftert address change)then they will call card holder.0
