Have you a date yet for you op Taplady?

not yet, have got an appointment to see the consultant again in August - seems like a long wait to me(last went in Feb I think) as they know I have got more abnormal cells and dont want to wait too long:rolleyes:

Am glad you had a long chat to DS1, things must be improving if he can talk about it.
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • WOW CHLOEBELLE AND JOJO:dance:

I'm sooooo jealous. That's absloutely fantastic.

Cheerfulness ~ That chat with your DS sounds really positive. Brilliant.

I don't know if anyone read my question about the out of date yeast so I'll ask it again in case anyone knows the answer; is dried yeast that had a use by date of April 2006 safe to use? I personally can't see what could go wrong with dried stuff and it smells ok. Anyone any idea? I've been inspired by Mrs Mc's baguettes to have a go myself, but don't know whether to use the yeast which I found in the back of my cupboard.

    Food today

B ~ one thinnish slice of chocolate cake:eek:

L ~ one pitta bread with hummus

D ~ don't know yet. I've got a PTA meeting tonight and I know there'll be crips and olives there, so if I don't eat any dinner then it won't be so bad when I eat the nibbles. Not very good I know, but I know I won't be able to resist the nibbles.

Hi there only girl in the house

I wouldn't use out of date yeast..it would be a shame to waste the other ingredients...plus you would be soooooo cross if you went to all that bother and they were naff:D someone mad a loaf using my recipe the other week and it didn't rise much..got her to check her yeast and it was out of date ;)

Been out watering the veggies again and on just 1 of my tomato plants i have over 65 flowers/buds..and signs of more coming woooohhooo

  • Thanks for that Mrs Mc. Just out of interest, is your bread recipe posted anywhere here?

Well done on the toms. I haven't got a single flower on any of mine yet:confused: am I doing something wrong I wonder?

Is there anything I can do with the out of date yeast save throwing it away? I hate throwing anything away.

    Hi there

I make it by hand now but I used to let the BM do the work ;)
    • 300ml luke warm water
    • 14g fresh yeast(dissolved in the water)...which i think is about 2tsp dried and a pinch of sugar
    • 500g bread flour
    • 3tsp salt
Throw them in your machine in the normal order for your BM.... just dump the salt in a corner to keep it away from the yeast to start with..and set to dough....
If you are letting the BM do the 1st raise then just tip out and shape into an oiled 2lb tin, cover with a carrier bag like a tent and leave until about 2-3" above the top of the tin... then wang in a preheated oven -230 for about 25mins or until golden -tip it out and if you knock on the bottom it should sound hollow

That makes a crusty loaf.... if you want it softer you can use part water and part milk .. and if you want it to keep better you can add a knob of butter/oil (i always found that oil makes a heavier loaf)-but we never bother as any that makes it past day 1 gets sliced and frozen:D

You might just be a bit further behind with the tomatoes and it is very hot here at the moment... once you start to get flowers on get a squirty plant sprayer and mist the flowers with water in a morning..it helps them "set" so they are less likely to fall off before a tomato has started to form.. also start to feed them about once a week ..again in the morning as thats when they feed.. and that feed/water should go onto the compost as they feed from the top as aposed to plain water which they like from below (in a saucer etc)

  • I haven't got a bread maker, I'm planning on making it all by hand. You didn't do your baguettes in a tin did you?

    hello

i make my bread by hand too(the BM got sent into the basement as i only ever use it to make the dough as its so much nicer in the oven)..the baguettes are left to prove in a folded teatowel (convinced myself not to buy the tins as the last lot made 6 so i would need 3 tins)..you flour it -plonk on on and then pinch the tea towel up so it forms a wall between the 2 baguettes...

Did you ned the method for hand baking the loaf or are you Ok?

Well done Chloebelle and JoJoB :T :T :T

I am another housework avoider. Well not so much avoiding as having priorities. I am on my own for 17 weeks at a time while dh works away and I have a 3 year old.

My priorities are that the kitchen must be clean, our clothes must always be clean and we must be clean (well at least first thing in the morning :rotfl: ), no particular order. I hoover the room where ds plays every day - what do they do that makes so much mess? I have a "good" sitting room which is adults only and no eating, so there is usually somewhere decent to take any visitors too posh for the kitchen.....

My house is huge (it was cheap as it was a "project"), and if I tried to keep it all clean, I would never go anywhere apart from work, and never have any time to play with my child. We have a lot of building work to do, and have done a lot in the past. I used to worry about the dust, now I admire it's many different colours.

As Taplady said, there's only me that notices if I do any cleaning anyway, so as long as my priorities are done I'm happy.
