Hello everyone - welcome Sandy! Sandy and ME - I went on a heart rehab programme thingie when I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and one of the sessions was about cholesterol. They said that the single most important thing about getting cholesterol under control and reducing it was not to eat saturated fat - that, they said, was more important than not eating eggs, prawns etc. and also not to fry any food even in unsaturated fat, because frying changes the chemical composition of any fat and that is not good. I presume that you will have been put on a statin and that should help bring things down. Even though I am very (VERY) overweight my cholesterol is always around 4.5 which is okay, but I am quite aware of what I eat and although I overeat (obviously!) I tend not to eat red meat or other saturated fats very often if I can help it. We also got a little credit card sized shopping aide which says that you shouldn't buy any food which has more than 4g of fat, 10g of sugars or 1g of salt per 100g. Hope you get it under control soon!
I have got a really upset tummy today. I have had an off tummy for a couple of days but yesterday and today I have had the runs and felt generally sick so I am taking it VERY easy today and have only had 2 ryvitas and a cup of herbal tea so far, and 10 minutes after that I had to run to the loo!
Anyway - Frogga - I'm proud of you that you didn't let that upset yesterday drive you to eat - you are definitely making excellent progress:TJane

Hey don't dis stingy nettles :rotfl: free spinach!
Wonder if they might work in risotto? Hmmmmm I normally use rocket leaves but wonder if nettles might work too...
Yup they'll work in risotto, I make nettle beer and also a lovely nettle and potato soup http://www.nettles.org.uk/nettles/activities/nettlesoup.asp (not my recipe but this site has some other uses for nettles as well), they make a nice nettle pudding (savoury) as well. One day I'll experiment with using them to dye fabric and all the other things I've read they're good for.
I to am putting on the lb's whilst saving the £'s, sooo many things need to be tested recipe wise, so far I've resited the twinks, but not sure how much longer I can!NSD Challenge 2010:Jul 12/12; Jun 21/14 :T; May : 6/6

If you want to lose weight - there's the old style weight loss thread....
or else read weezl's thread about boiling up pigs head, read the older threads about worms in fish, the stuff value cheese is made of, what goes into cheap sausages, and the other one about creepy crawlies in flour - be enough to put you right off!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Make them when other people are around - especially kids - you'll barely get a look in that way :rolleyes:working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
be grateful it's just chelsea buns you're craving...I didn't want to eat stinging nettles and pigs trotters till I read Weezl74's "eat on 50p a day" thread!
the power of suggestion is an impressive thing...
Now if someone could just suggest to me that I might like to lose a little weight, that'd be fine and dandy :A
p.s. the lemon curd cake is lovely... yup, that one got me too :rolleyes:0 -
I really need to get off the computer and downstairs to finish off the bounty balls, and I got that recipe the first time that I joined the Grocery Challenge. Sigh. Oh, and the Weetabix brownies were pretty good and when I do the bounty balls I will also be adding a Weetabix cake and some trays of Twinks as well. Sigh.
At least the banana bread recipe I got off here didn't end up on my hips - OH appreciated it along with his work colleagues.
This board is leading me in wonderful ways.Always another chapter0 -
Twinks are yummy, as is the weetabix cake  .
I seem to be looking out old recipes- avoiding choccy but made orange and cranberry cakes (adapted from an orange loaf thingy) and apricot flapjacks today alone  .
Nana cakes tomorrow, or muffins.
Not sure how much longer I will resist the Bounty Bites for though!
Need some more eggs though today is an NSD so need to wait until tomorrow or Thurs.
PS Hoovering manically to shift some calories- thankfully am naturally thinand breastfeeding means I need more cals too

Frogga there are so many worse things to be than overweight. My dad is an alcoholic. He wasn't when I was at school, but he is now, and as far as help and support go, well he is no help at all.
My mother, whilst a normal weight was having an affair with her best friends husband while I was trying to do my O' levels. Honestly, there are worse things than having an overweight mum. You are behind your kids 100%, that's what is important.
Nix, well said, I agree!
RS I hope you feel better soon.
Well done any losers, I salute you.
Even though I haven't lost any weight this month I am happy. I joined slimming world again last night (just while dh is home), and I looked out my old books first. When I first went in March 2003 I weighed 17 stone 2 lbs. When I started again December 2007 I weighed 16 stone 1.5lbs....and last night (loud fanfare) at 7.15pm, fully dressed and after eating my dinnner I only weighed 15 stone 4lbs.
I daren't make those bounty balls by the way:EasterBun0
