Well, I´ve been dieting in my head forever, but now I have to do it for real as my blood tests have come back with high Trig levels (nearly and 400) high LDL chrloresterol count. Have to have low carbs eg very little bread, pasta, potatoes or rice and very little sugars (including fructose) or fat. I never use hard fat (butter-marg etc) even for sandwiches but do use olive oil for cooking although we never have fried food.
It seems that a lot of the bad stuff I´ve been eating has been hidden eg sugar/fats etc in yoghourts, cheese, meat etc.
So now I just don´t know where to start. I´ve been looking at food labels etc but here in our part of Spain, food labelling isn´t like it is in UK ie very little foods have the panels listing ingredients per 100gr. Even when I found Benecol and Activia in Lidls yesterday, they were low in fat but high in sugars, so left them on the shelves. I´ve been looking at various diets sites, but they all seem to contradict each other eg Atkins is low on carbs (sugars) but highish on fats (meat/dairy), then there´s low GI,
and others that seem to let you have a bit of everything.
I just don´t know where to start.....any help /ideas/recipes welcome

    Morning All,

Welcome Sandy, I'm not sure about your probs but the others will know~ give em time to reply though xx

It's raining here AGAIN! I haven't enjoyed the garden much at all yet this year.

All was fine yesterday, didn't even feel like going off on one :D Ooooooooooo something not nice happened at school to Tadpole 2 ~ A horrid little boy who is much younger was taunting and being rude to Tadpole 2 saying he was fat et.c ( which is a real joke as he is dead skinny:rolleyes: ) and then he said "and your Mums a big fat elephant"

It really upset Tadpole 2 as , in his words " I just wanted to smash his face in!" and it did upset me too. It's not so much that he was rude about my weight, it's that something I have done, a problem that I have, has caused upset for the Tadpoles. They have never been teesed before about me, as far as I know, and I always vowed to loose the weight before they were at school as I didn't want them to be picked on about it. I feel like I let them down really.

I do realise that kids pick at any "weekness", small house, wrong car, et.c but I feel that it is my responsibility to be "normal" so that I dont give anyone amunition to have a go at them. Anyway, it did pee me off but it didn't make me eat, and if anything it made me more determined to keep going. I also thought he was a cheeky little **** as his mother is by no means an oil painting

Tadpole 2 and his friends have had a lot of problems with much younger kids being rude and dissrespectful. They are all 11 and kids as young as 7 and 8 have been swearing et.c at them , taunting and teesing. They are all nice boys who walk away but it continues. Mr Frog said it would stop if they got a bop on the nose and I was completely against that sort of thing but now I'm not so sure. There seams to be absolutly no respect for anyone

Anyway, I digress, how unlike me ;) Food today will be:
    B~ Porridge and banana
    S~ 4 Prunes and 4 nuts
L~Chilli and Jacket pot with stir fry
    S~Yog and Nectarine
T~Seedy bread sarnie with watercress, spinach, rocket and houmous

Yummy Yummy in my Tummy :D Gonna have a lazy day as I have nothing planned so just gonna potter around the house. Only 1 week now before the Tadpoles are off for the summer :j

Have a good day peeps x

Hello Frogga (and everyone else) :j

I don't often post, but the last time I did, you sent me a lovely PM and I just thought I would like to offer some support. Seeing as how you thoroughly enjoyed your walk, I wondered whether it might do you some good psychologically to focus on exercise for a while, and keep food as an important, but secondary issue. I don't mean to sound like I know what I'm talking about at all, because I don't, but I know that personally I find it very easy to get hung up on food, make lots of good resolutions, and then blow them all. Recently, I've been really focusing on exercise, and that has definitely helped my body shape, and of course muscle burns more than fat even at a resting heart rate, so it helps even when you're sitting on the sofa later that night!

A side effect is that I don't (subconsciously) want to ruin my efforts with the exercise so I tend to stick on the healthier side naturally once I'm exercising a lot. Also, when I do have a blow out I find it much easier to get back on track, because I can think 'well, I have all those exercise brownie points, they can cancel out that naughty food blow out' and then I don't get all upset and end up eating even more.

Just a little thought and feel free to ignore me totally! You're doing fab btw

Frogga, when my lil un was 7 and the sweetest thing you ever did see, wouldn't say boo to a goose, he got picked on at school because I was gay. Now I completely understand Mum guilt but what am I gonna do in that situation? Beat myself up because I don't like the fellas? Or reinforce his belief that everyone can be exactly whoever they want to be and it's the rotten kids who deserve a kick up the bum, metaphorically speaking. I suppose what I am trying to say is that in every single way that counts you are a brilliant Mum and the package you come in is irrelevant. Completely irrelevant. You in no way, shape or form have let your boy down. You think being a thin Mum makes you a better Mum? Does it boogery woman. In every single way that is important YOU are a bloody amazing mum. And don't you ever, ever forget it lady. And stuff the guilt, it's the biggest waste of emotional energy ever. We teach our kids strategies for dealing with little twerps - got to say lil tadople sounds like he's doing ok :) - and we show our kids that being positive and not letting the twerps get to us about anything is how we live out lives. Just because the thing we get picked on for could be changed it doesn't mean we should. Big, small, black, white, gay, straight - the reason is irrelevant. Now I am probably banging on about this - sorry my slimy green friend - but I wish right now I could sit you down, give you a cuppa tea and say stop it. Your kids couldn't ask for a better mum and don't you ever feel guilty for being you.

    So there.

    *giving you a wee squeeze*

Did I go on a bit? Sorry matey but honestly, your ace Mum-ness shines through honey and your kids are testament to that. No more feeling bad, ok?

    Hi all,

I am optimistic now about reversing any damage done over the weekend but I feel absolutely horrendous as I am so bunged up from all the processed crap :o

Trying to get back to normal again so here goes:

B: Bran flakes, skimmed milk and banana
    L: HM veg soup
    D: Prawn coconut laksa

S: Maybe a skinny cappucino and an apple

I had a HM scone yesterday with some delicious blackcurrant jam that MIL made using currants from FIL allotment. The taste was a million miles away from the crap they sell in the supermarket and although it was small it fixed the craving :p

Yes Nixy you are right, and Thankyou for trying to make me see it

I guess I feel that there is no shame in being Gay or Straight, Black or White, Short or Tall Rich or Poor , so I wouldn't be upset about any of those things BUT......... I do Feel asahmed of being fat :o

I feel I am very fatist if I'm totally honest. It says to me "Lack of Self Control, Lazy, Ugly, Unintelligent" and I feel that about fat people I see , so I guess I expect everyone feels it about me. There are three fat people on my Dad's side of the family and I feel very embarrassed by them. I would not want people knowing we were related because I think they would look at me and say "ah it runs in the family , that's why she's fat" My Mum is very young looking and slim and attractive and I love people seeing me with her cause I like to show off about how nice my Mum looks.

I am completely prejudice and it's a not nice thing about me I know. You said Nixy that it's not important the package you come in , but I don't really come in a package like this. I was in a beautiful package with a bow on the top and everything, but then someone dropped me and I got all damaged :o Now I look a state.

Oh and one last thing, I aint Slimey actually, I'm quite soft thankyou very much  (;) )

    Dear Sandy,
Thankyou for posting. It was yesterday that hubby and I had the unwelcome news that I have abnormally high cholesterol and blood pressure.
I also have M.E. or CFS so I have been having a reasonable healthy diet for many years, but little exercise. Like you rarely have fatty foods and have never been tempted by cakes or biscuits.
As people on here know I am 16st 11lb and have stayed that weight for several months despite trying to limit portion sizes etc.
Well the routine visit to the Doctor was far from routine. A rude wake-up call. Triple whammy for cholesterol/blood pressure. Menopause, ME and unluckiest of all I inherited a faulty gene (which we have only just found out about) that means I actually manufacture the damned cholesterol in my liver to abnormally high levels.
Without treatment I would have a stroke/heart attack within a couple of years.
What made this gene suddenly start manufacturing cholesterol, when up until two years ago I had normal cholesterol and very good blood pressure?
Who knows. But looking through family history ALL my aunts/uncles and mother died through stroke/heart attack and unluckily this has definitely been passed onto me.
So yesterday I started taking various tablets. My diet sheet is fairly simple. If it is fruit or vegetable eat it, without added sugar and with the minimum amount of rape seed oil or olive oil for cooking. Home made vegetable soup excellent - no fat or cream/milk added.
Oats, whole cereals very good. Skimmed milk OK.
Fish OK but no prawns/scampi or frying. Eggs - one a week. Meat only lean meat and not too much.
No pastries, bread/cakes, cream, liver, sausages, pies, salty or smoked food, bacon, no fat/oil except rape seed oil or olive oil and as little of that as possible.
Sorry about the long post. I'm sure we are not the only ones. Support here is excellent, which is why I have posted today rather than crying in my pillow.
