Hi Claire,
A friend of mine, had lost her job, got into trouble with all her bills, owing months of payments, even had her orange contract disconnected for non-payment and still walked out of the Vodaphone shop with a £25 per month contract.
She is now bankrupt and still kept the contract..the mind boggles
:O crazy!!!
i got my orange fone, used it loads, got disconnected, and ignored it til debt collecters sent bill, and dad paid it cuz i was just a kid!!
xxTHANK MEEE:j0 -
I did have a default from them yes but then they sold the debt to lowell then i managed to get lowell to remove the debt last year and now cap 1 thought they would be smart and add it back on after they win court case.0

Just in case anyone is interested, I've applied and been approved for a £500 JJB Card and a My World one (Don't know the limit on that one yet) through Sigma bank. I also have a Flybe with a limit of £3,000. At this rate, all of my credit cards are going to be through them!!
I started my credit journey in March 2006. I have perfect payment history, but I'm considered sub prime because I only have two years worth of residential history as I lived in the US before that.
Since March 06 I've received in this order:
3 Mobile Contract for 18 months (Now finished, £75 deposit required)
£250 Capital One (Now £500 - They're refusing to increase it after almost 2 years of perfect payments!)
£250 Vanquis (Now £750... with hopefully another increase in the future)
£650 HFC Loan on a laptop (Settled within interest free period)
£2000 Barclaycard Initial (Now £1800... Highest it's been is £2100 - my credit limit has risen and fallen like the tides with no explanation available!)
£100 Littlewoods Catalogue (now Closed)
£150 Littlewoodsdirect Catalogue (now Closed)
Orange Contract - No deposit required
Next Catalogue - Started at £300, now £900. (I've never spent more than £50 on it!)
£600 HFC Finance (another laptop! Sold the first one)
£1000 Lloyds Credit Card (I bank with them!)
£3000 Flybe credit card.
And then this week...
£500 JJB Credit Card
£? MyWorld Credit Card.
I'm self employed and literally max out 2 or 3 credit cards to buy stock, which then pay them off entirely within a month or two... I know it isn't the 'ideal' way, but it works for me until I get a better option.
My APR's were in the 28-34% range (Vanquis, Capital One, Barclaycard) and now the newer cards are falling through my door with APR's around 19-24%. My credit score has gone from the low 600's to the 800's in 18 months!!
I'm thinking of cancelling a few cards - Vanquis, Capital One etc. (I have just under £10,000 in credit available to me now!! eek!) but don't know what's best... as it is I'm receiving a LOT of green dots each month. What do you guys suggest? Keep the more sub prime ones at £0 balances, or cancel completely?
If I cancel Capital One, is there a chance I could reapply for a high limit and better APR? I still can't get any of the mainstream lenders (virgin, MBNA, even GE Money etc) to touch me0 -
wow you are lucky:DTHANK MEEE:j0

Aren't defaults on your file for 6 years from them being registered?
As far as i'm aware defaults work the same as CCJs!
They have a lifespan of 6 years from the date they were recorded. Also they are removed even if the debt isn't settled/satisfied after the 6 years.
Hope this helps Sutton:eek: Debts: Capitalone £0, Vanquis £220, LX Direct £1197, Mutual £1107, JD Williams £23 :eek:0 -
Does anyone have the customer service phone numbers for Flybe and JJB? I've misplaced them and want to make a payment to my cards.
Mucho thanks x0 -
Claire6hy - I am, and I'm not. My ideal scenario is to have a card with a limit of £6000 or so and then cancel the rest. But no individual lender is willing to take that kind of gamble on me just yet! :P
Right now, its a pain in the bum trying to remember which low limit card I've spent on and which ones I haven't! Especially when my average stock purchase is around £400-600 :P0
