Hi everyone,
Just thought I would update and let you know that I had a phone call today from Vanquis and guess what..........................
I got accepted :j :j
I can't believe it, thank you Proliant for your advice
Any of you guys who has this card got any advice on how I can use this card tomy advantage toget my credit rating improved?
Thanks again0 -
Hi, I'm new and after some advice please. I am currently paying off a DMP with a debt management company which I have been paying for 7 years. There was one ccj on there registered 8 yrs ago and 6 defaulted credit cards and loans. I am now trying to make a fresh start in life and am divorced and living at adifferent address. I am working and trying to build a future for my children. I would like to rebuild my credit rating (not build up more debts - I have learnt my lesson there!) but would like to know if I am likely to be accepted for anything while I am still paying the DMP? I have never missed a payment but by my calculations will take another 3 years for me to clear it. Ideally I am looking for a bank account with a cheque book as currently for my rent I have to give my mum the cash and she writes a cheque for me and a credit card with a low limit. I did apply for a littlewoods catalogue about 6 months ago and got accepted but have been too scared to apply for anything else. I am on the electoral roll at my new address. But am afraid my previous address will go against me especially as my ex husband is bankrupt. (Though after our divorce>)
Hi Doeli :hello:
Welcome to the board
First things first, have you got an up to date copy of your credit report? Either Experian or Equifax, or both would be best. You can check these online for free with a 30 day trial. Defaults and CCJs drop off your file 6 years after they are first registered, so they shouldn't still be on your file. We were all nervous checking our report for the first time after so long. But it's never as bad as what you think it is!!
Have a look at your report and then come back to us to.
I'm not too clued up on DMPs, but as far as I'm aware, you're not able to enter into a new credit agreement whilst you're on the DMP. But I guess that wouldn't mean a bank account as that isn't a credit agreement strictly speaking. Quote a few of us on here have got an Alliance & Leicester account with nasties on our files. That comes with a Visa Debit and a chequebook.
Anyways, sorry for the delay in replying. Please feel free to post any question, we're a friendly bunch
Good luck and let us know how you get on0 -

Hi Sutton,
No I haven't rebooked my CBT yet lol. I'll wait until I get paid on Friday and rebook it for a couple of weeks time. I keep looking at people on bikes now thinking how do you do it lol
Did you try for the A&L account? Look on the positive sides of YB. At least they're reporting to the CRAs and giving you nice green zeros
I think HSBC are really strict, so it might be a bit risky trying them.0 -
Purplecats, I know. It's cold enough to snow, but no snow here yet
I'm in the wrong end of London lol. I don't have a Flybe but I know that others on here have been accepted with adverse history. They give quite good limits as well £2-3k
Fairmorn, it was an automatic increase on my 4th statement. They said that they would do more increases but didn't say when. The letter just says if you manage your account well blah blah blah
Moyilla, congrats :j . That's great news. Use your Vanquis wisely. spend on it but make sure you clear it in full every month otherwise the 39% interest will hit you hard. I use mine for about £30-£40 a month and have a direct debit set up to pay it off in full every month. If you keep doing that then you'll have a nice set of green zeros which will over time improve your credit rating. What limit did you get?0 -

Thank you Sammy
I don't know the limit I forgot to ask  but they did offer me a cash advance of £250 which would be taken off my card so I assume it might be £250?. I declined
Though she did mention a 46.8% APR
Sounds silly but I feel it's a little step forward to rebuilding my life0
